Thank you notes- is this idea tacky?

Well how many postcards will you need to buy in HI? that's not going to be cheap if they're $1 apiece and you have to send 50 . you don't really have to buy them in HI, you could find them cheap on the internet and none of your guests will know! I bought 120 thank you cards for $30, that's only a quarter each.

Agreed..I suppose if we get there and find that they are extremely costly we can always revise the plan. However, I purchased some on vacation in CA a couple of years ago 5 for $1 and am assuming Hawaii has what I like to call "crap stores" just like they do near most beaches with all that touristy stuff. Great idea about the internet though...if we can't find any that are reasonable there, I will certainly go that route. I'm not sure it matters, mailing them straight from Hawaii. Some things I was reading about etiquette said you have 3 months to a year after the wedding to mail them out. Can you imagine being that much of a procrastinator?!?!?! I had my shower TYs out in 5 days. As my fiance pointed out, who wants to send a thank you note a year later to someone saying, "Thanks for the great $40 towels. It's been so long since we thanked you, we're now cleaning up dog accidents and washing our cars with them."...lol.

We did (should say in process of) the post card thing. Only we got ours from Vistaprint. 250 and only paid shipping.

I think it's a fantastic idea, however, don't spend your whole honeymoon writing thank you cards enjoy yourself! I'd say get the postcards there, but not necessarily write them there.

I agree with Jessica- don't waste your honeymoon writing thank-you's! Also, you may want to send your more formal relatives regular thank you's, and send post cards to friends and informal family who won't care about etiquette. Base it on people's personalities and you might just please everyone!

I think this is a wonderful personal touch to add. I agree with Jessica, though, write them after you return home.

Rachel also brings up a good point, mailing from Hawaii could cause a delay, or cost additional postage.

I was just going to write what the above post stated. A great idea, just write and mail the post cards from home.

Any idea on the timing etiquette of sending postcards? I'm planning on doing the same thing... sending cards from Italy/Greece depending on who gave what gift from Honeyfund but my honeymoon is 3 weeks after the wedding and we'll be gone for 3 weeks!
