Tax Season

Muffin, on January 20, 2009 at 5:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I was browsing the web when I came across an article stating bad times to get married and normally I would've just shrugged it off like nothing because there really is no BAD time to get married in my opinion it's just the way you look at it. Well I noticed that it mentioned a bad time to have your wedding is at tax time. Well my FH and I fell in love with out date mainly because it was in spring and around the time of his birthday so he'll remember every year (he's a little forgetful lol) also there's no other family events around that time. The only thing is that our wedding will be happening right before tax day, we didn't send out our invites or save the dates but I still don't want to change our date so I was just wondering what everybody out there thought about it...is it actually a bad time to get married or does it not matter? Opinions?

Did the article actually say why it was such a bad time? It seems very strange to me. i would think that mid-April would be the start of the season in some places, especially those that get blazing hot by mid-may

I'm getting married 3 days after tax day lol. if you send out your invites and all that stuff, your guests should have the sense to get all of their tax stuff done ahead of time if they plan on going to your wedding and expect to be able to enjoy it without the weight of their looming taxes that are due within the next 5 days. go for it hon! you have to learn which articles to listen to and which not to.

I have never heard of such craziness. I think as long as you give people enough advance notice there is no problem. My wedding is also 3 days after.

I agree, I wouldn't worry about setting that date and if I was invited to a wedding around tax season it wouldn't bother me. Keep the date if you love it and just give enough notice to everyone.

My cousin got married 4/14/107 and I don't think she had a problem with her Wedding Date being around Tax Season given she's an Accountant. Really it's all about personal preferance and what you can afford at what time of the year and when you really want your Wedding to take place.

I work for an accounting firm and have several friends/family that are CPA's. It is a terribly crazy time for anyone in the industry - most work 70 hours a week. With that being said, if you are giving people ample notice, they should be able to make sure that they can schedule around your wedding.

There is no "bad" time to get married. There is a peak wedding season from May through September where wedding services tend to be more expensive than getting an "off season" deal. However, all prices are negotiable within reason.

Being a tax preparer myself, I can only imagine two reasons why tax time would be bad. The first being if you are inviting any tax preparers because they will be crazy busy. The other is that during tax time people are short on money because federal taxes are due, business taxes are due, and property taxes are due. This might mean less money for your wedding gifts. But you know what? If people get your invites in plenty of time, it shouldn't be a problem. So GO FOR IT!!!

I dont think there is anything wrong with that date unless you or your fiance were accountants which is my case, and thats only bc of the long work days etc. no jan - april or end aug- mid oct for me.. no ones got it bad like me lol

Thanks I thought it was kinda off I hadn't heard it before but the reason I was really asking for opinions is because I have a few people in our family that are actually tax preparers/accounts and I hadn't even thought about it being tax season then. And also because last year I had problem with my W2 forms not coming in and I had a horrible time with my filing and when I read the article it brought up those bad memories. But it just said the week before tax day was a little hectic and not the best time for some people. I think everyone will have their taxes done earlier than that though. Smiley smile
