Tattoo cover up for big day?

Katie, on June 24, 2017 at 1:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

I have two semi large tattoos, one on each arm. I want to hear from brides who DID cover up their tattoos. Was it expensive? And brides who didnt, why not?

I should add that my FH doesn't love my tattoos and that I consider them a regret Smiley sad

Do you consider them a regret solely because your FH doesn't love them? Or you regret them for other reasons?

I personally think they are beautiful and I'd wanna show them off if I were you. But that's just my two cents

Not married yet, but I have an enormous tattoo along my spine that starts at my neck. I fully intend to cover mine because it doesn't fit with my vision of my bridal look. I want a dress with a low or illusion back and it would be out in its full glory in that case. I LOVE my tattoo, but it has an extremely personal meaning that makes others uncomfortable (sexual assault awareness/survivor). I just don't want that part of me exposed on such a joyous day. My FH also hates tattoos, but he said he doesn't care either way. My wedding is still a long way off, but I have found several MUAs include cover-ups for a small fee.

If you don't want them then see if you can get them airbrushed hidden. However, you are your skin and your tattoos so although it may look good more ascetically pleasing, the next day when you shower. they will still be there. they are a part of you. also, i'm assuming most people know you have the tattoos so it may throw them off.

I have 9 that I'm not covering and they will all be visible in my dress. I don't regret any of them even the silly first one I got so I don't feel the need to cover them up. I figure that my FH and every wedding guest has seen them so why cover them like I'm ashamed. I keep seeing ads for makeup that will cover them so that could be a good option for you. Maybe the person who's doing your makeup for the wedding day will be able to cover them and you won't have to spend any extra money

My tattoo is not that big but I plan on leaving it the way it is. I love my it and it is very significant to me, my Mom was not too happy when I found a dress that shows it but she knows how much it is part of who I am so she is on board.

I have a fairly large back piece that goes from shoulder to shoulder and to the end of my shoulder blades. I want to show it because it is a memorial for my grandma who I was very, very close with at the time of her passing. I know some people will side eye it in my family but I don't care, I kbow grandma will be there with my on my wedding day.

Can you look into seeing if your makeup artist can airbrush over them? I also know that Kat Von D has an amazing line of makeup specifically for tattoos I believe, other PP have mentioned on previous threads. As others have said, even if you cover them they will still be there the next day. if I were you, I would think on this and make sure your decision to cover or not to cover is truly yours and yours alone.

I covered one but not the other. I didn't cover my recent one but covered my older one. My older one I had gotten with my ex. Although I don't have regret over it (it shows me how far I have come as he was controlling and verbally abusive) I know that it bothers my mom and reminds her of that time. So I covered it. My MUA used Kat Von D and airbrushed over it to set it.

@Lindsey- completely agree. It did throw a few people off when they didn't see it.

Thanks for the advice!! I think I need to consider it some more, as you guys have said they are a part of me and everyone knows I have them. I just kind of like the idea of having totally clean unmarked skin on my wedding day, especially because if I could go back and do it over I wouldn't have gotten them....thanks so much you guys!

I haven't picked a makeup artist yet but I definitely want airbrushed makeup and several MUA I have looked at do that so I'll have to check their pricing

I think it depends on the sentimental value, I have one I debated covering but it is one for my mom so obviously not going to

I have 3; one was visible in my dress. Covering it wasn't an option, because I adore it.

Honestly, though, if I regretted it, or if it reminded me of a bad time in my life, I'd have covered it. I had a great MUA who would have done it for me.

I have 4 and am only covering one. I love them all and they all mean something to me, but where it is placed with the way my dress is it just doesn't sit right with me. It throws off the beauty of the back of my dress. I'm using Kat von d to cover it up

Katie- don't feel bad about wanting to cover your tattoos! Although they are "apart of me", I don't want them exposed on my wedding day. I plan on finding a dress that may cover them or using the Kat Von D or professional tattoo covering makeup. Maybe you can find a beautiful low back dress with low sleeves as well.

@Katie I feel the same way! I have 2 on my lower arm that I regret getting. Started laser treatments a while back, but they will still be slightly visible by my wedding day.

I've seen a lot of ads on Facebook for something called Dermacol? Worth looking into!
