I highly recommend asking a tattoo artist, MUA, or even hair stylist. My hair stylist tried covering my sisters tats but forgot about them so the makeup used wore off very quickly. Good luck.

You could try using a brand called Dermablend. It's usually available at department stores like Macy's and online. They don't have the best range of shades, though, so your sister can try going to the store and asking the makeup artist there to test it out on her before she buys it. It's relatively inexpensive too.

    Good luck!

Products such as Dermablend and Kat Von D's tattoo cover and others like it will work great but will not last through sweating and rubbing. They are designed for temporary use such as a photoshoot or job interview. The only way to truly cover tattoos for a wedding would be through a professional makeup artist who has access to the right products. If your sister has a lot of tattoos as you suggest, it's going to be extremely costly. It's almost like body painting and the same sort of makeup needs to be used so it resists melting and cracking and to keep it from rubbing off on clothing.

I have used the makeups.. they look bad if you can cover the makeup up with stockings...

I just had my MUA do a trial on my tattoos and it still looked discolored... its very difficult to match the skin tone.

You may want to figure out a way to cover them for the ceremony only, the makeup doesn't last long. My MOH is like that her whole back is covered and her dress is one strap so half of them show. They aren't on her arms or from the front so it's not that bad, but there isn't much you can do for the WHOLE night. What about a shawl or something?

Does she want them covered up? Tattoo cover make up that you buy in stores are only good for things like covering small tattoos for a quick period of time.

Celebrities who advertise that stuff don't tell you that it only works well when applied with a ton of other professional makeup.

I wouldn't dream of asking any of my girls to cover their tats. Even if I weren't tattooed, I don't think it's right. If you are gun ho about it, you should pay for the cover up application and having it done by a professional is not cheap.

Thank you Miss Tattoo, I was thinking the same thing!!! My MOH is covered and I would never dream of asking her to cover them. It's who she is. I have a chest tat that I will be covering only because the dress is so busy it doesn't look right. Not because I'm ashamed I'm proud of that tat!

I'm often asked to cover up small tattoo's for weddings.

I always recommend not going over anything larger than a 3-5in circle depending on the location of the tattoo.

The cover up doesn't last too long and can often look fake. This is especially true is something is rubbing against the tattoo like a shawl or part of the dress.

If you do plan on doing it yourself, go with a professional brand. Not Kat Von D's. It doesn't do much.

Cover FX is an AMAZING brand. Derma blend is another good option. Also, look into a Barrier spray like Makeup Forever's, Mist and Fix or Mehrons Barrier Spray. This will keep sweat from ruining it.

Though really - I try and encourage my clients to let the tattoo show. No one is going to be paying attention to it. All eyes will be on you anyways!

I'm with Miss Tattoo. Although this does mean that one of my grandma's will be seeing a couple for the first time. Everyone else knows they're there. I think it would be just as big of a distraction sine people will be looking to see if they can see the makeup. Good luck with whatever option you choose!

As a makeup artist I have two suggestions for you - Let your maid just bare her tattooes for the world to see Smiley smile

    OR

Pay a AIRBRUSH makeup artist to cover the tattoo work BUT it must be with an alcohol based makeup....anything else will wear too quickly, rub off on clothing and not last through the ceremony.

I have done tons of tattoo covers and no matter how well I set them (professional primed, PRO products and setting spray) they dont last the whole wedding and rub off on clothing. I think the ONLY way to successfully cover a tattoo, have it last until the next day, look truly covered, photograph well, ability to create realistic looking skin is by airbrushing over the tattoo with the proper PRO makeup.

ALSO the cover needs to be color corrected under the makeup, first. This is where color theory comes in handy and being a true artist shines Smiley smile

    Good luck
