Tangled Theme - limited flower budget

Vicki, on September 25, 2018 at 3:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

I decided on a subtle Tangled themed wedding. Gold and lavender, lights, lanterns. The problem is that a huge component of the theme is flowers.

Guess what's super expensive: flowers.

My fiance is really leaning towards no real flowers except for bouquets and boutonnieres, which is fine, I'm a crafty bride and I can work with it. One thing I'm thinking of is paper flowers! It might be a good way to get a larger quantity at a lower cost. Has anyone mixed real and paper before? How about those giant paper flowers? They look so fun! Has anyone done those? any tutorials?

I want to do a variety of flowers, but I really am looking for how to do a lily (to go with the theme) and a rose (he proposed in the Portland rose garden Smiley love )

Also, if you have any other lower budget ideas for a Tangled theme?

I had a thought, but idk if it's cheesy. Rapunzel has all those cute paintings on her walls. What if I painted (in her style) little scenes from our relationship on a fabric table runner for each table?

Also, I was trying to think of how to incorporate the boat or frying pan and make it look like it actually belongs (because I'm trying not to have a wedding that screams Disney!). I thought of having little wooden boats holding the table numbers, but that might be out of place...what do you guys think?

Honestly - I don't think Tangled is a movie that people will be familiar enough to recognize references such as a "boat" or "frying pan"... I would try to go with the overall vibe leaning towards "tangled" rather than such specific references, if that makes sense.

For what it's worth, I think some large paper flowers could make beautiful and unique decor!

I have no idea what this movie is so any theme would be lost on me.

We are only doing real flowers for myself and FH (it came with our package) my Aunt made boutonnières for the GM and corsages for the moms and they are AMAZING!!! I recommend fake flowers (Honestly when my Aunt brought over the boutonniere's last month I was like those won't last until Oct because I legit thought they were real at first!)

This idea is so fun! Tangled is one of my favorite princess movies!

At Michael's I recently saw a few different floral garlands that had the lavender color in them and they usually run sales on the seasonal florals (these were considered "fall florals.")

I love the idea of the table runners! It looks like there's some other gorgeous but subtle ideas if you just search "Tangled wedding" on Pinterest.

Edit: I also found these on Amazon:

    https://www.amazon.com/Lodge-Skillet-Miniature-Individual-Desserts/dp/B000LXA9YI?crid=2THO9WC0XD2SF&keywords=mini+cast+iron+skillet&qid=1537904224&sprefix=mini+cast+iron+skillet%2Caps%2C885&sr=8-1&ref=sr_1_1

Not sure what your favor budget looks like, but if you could do some sort of skillet cookie or even give these and the dry ingredients for a skillet dessert that might be fun and subtly tie in to your theme!

Look for real touch flowers! They are fantastic! We are actually going to do a mix of both due to our budget. Bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages will all be real, but the aisle flowers and maybe some altar flowers will be fake. Then at the reception, we are doing a greenery garland on the tables that will be real, but we are interspersing some fake flowers in centerpieces. The good news is that with the real touch ones, they look fantastic with the greenery!

I love the idea and Tangled is such great movie for wedding inspiration. Haven't seen them at a wedding, but one of my college roommates would fill our suite every valentines day with paper flowers and she would give them out on campus. They were beautiful and it was always a highlight of the year.

I'm not sure how you would incorporate the frying pan, but could you craft a boat as your card box?

Flowers: super markets and cosco - DIY you're arrangements to save some money.

P.S. Are you doing tangled inspired hair? You have to post pictures! I'm sure that will be stunning.

I’m doing a Tangled themed wedding as well!! Hobby Lobby and Michaels do some premixed floral arrangements with the exact colors that you are wanting. I’m not sure how much your floral budget is.

Im not a huge flower person to begin with so I totally understand the frustration there. I didn’t want a ton of flowers everywhere. We ended up doing bouquets and boutineeres, and a few arrangements for either side of the alter.

I love tangled! I have small elements in my wedding for it as well!

For the frying pan, it could be the ring bearer box/ring holder. And maybe make a boat drink holder? Or a photo booth opportunity with the backdrop of the lanterns?

Oh the flying lamps! Those would be beautiful table settings.

And you could put a frying pan shaped piece of paper - like a silhouette - in frames behind words like table numbers. Small things like this will make it a dream for any disney lover to come to your wedding and notice your tiny attention to detail. I also really liked the idea of those small skillet cookies as a favor.

Paper flowers can be so beautiful when done will. Get quality paper and they could make beautiful table placemats, or you can use origami flowers on strands or on tables. So many cool ideas!

I love the theme, and agree with PP I'd keep it more subtle with just flowers and the color scheme and less about specific movie references (I've only seen the movie once with my little cousins so I wouldn't get the references.)

I have not used paper flowers but I have cheated my way around to get the most for my money with floral! Here's some things I did! I'm mixing real with fake, and all of the real flowers are being ordered from Flower Moxie.

I really wanted a greenery chandelier, so I bought a metal wreath hoop (? don't know if that is what it's called), this would look cool for your theme too! I filled it out with a little bit of fake greenery I got on sale at Michaels for cheap (this doesn't have to look super "real" because it'll be hanging 20 feet in the air) and then when I get the real greenery delivered I'll back fill in the hoop with 3 bunches of real greenery and it'll look really full but keep costs down! This is my goal:

I'm also doing a garland for the fireplace mantle at our venue, again I'm cheating with this. I bought a really pretty garland from Michaels on sale (double sale with my app coupon) and I cut off the pumpkins that were attached because I'm not having a fall wedding lol but the greenery looked closest to what I ordered. When the real greenery arrives I plan to again back fill greenery into the garland to make it lush and full, but the support and shape will already be there for me so the hard part is already done. I think I'm using 2 bunches of greenery for this.

    Supply cost:

    Greenery- $14 per bunch

    Garland- $9 (70% off of $30)

    Chandelier/Wreath hoop- $6

Fake greenery- less than $20 (maybe $4 a bunch?)

So many good ideas! Thank you all so much! I decided to do research today and looked up some paper flower tutorials and how much cardstock would cost plus the wire and floral tape. By my calculations, if I stick only to paper, it'll be only $50! (sales....) I'm excited with that number. And that covers bouquets, centerpieces, everything.

I think I will stick to the colors and flowers and lanterns for decorations. I don't want to answer a million times "why is there a frying pan there?!" Thinking I'll have fun with the pictures, though, because I have Rapunzel's crown and can get out our cast iron pan!

That sounds gorgeous! I'm making some paper flowers for our wedding to save money as well--have you heard of Lia Griffith? Her website has A TON of paper flower projects, including giant roses & peonies. Some templates are free, and some require membership, but it might be worth it?

What about dry flowers in light colors? Stores give discounts on dying fliers you could spray dry for the theme. I would order those big paper flowers from a website that has a tutorial or YouTube it first.

What about having the pan be attached to the bouquet...? Like the handle in with the stems and then the flowers will kinda lay in the pan?
