Take e-ring on Jamaican vacation?

Sunni, on October 3, 2015 at 11:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

FH and I are going to a friend's destination wedding in April. I have some time to decide, but I'm wondering if I should take my engagement ring with me. We plan to spend quite a bit of time in the water and I'm not sure I feel comfortable leaving the ring in the hotel. What would you do or have done in a similar situation?

I would suggest to not take it. I actually bought a CZ ring to take with me on our honeymoon. I will not risk it

I think people freak out about this way too much. I lived in the Caribbean (in Antigua). The last thing on people's minds was stealing tourist's engagement rings.

(There wasn't a black market on the island for engagement rings. Who would you sell them to? The islands are smaller than you would think.)

Your room should have a safe. If it doesn't, just leave your ring at home if you're that worried about it.

We just got back from Mexico and when I wasn't wearing mine, it was in the safe. No big deal.

    1. Make sure the ring is insured.

    2. Either keep it in the safe when you are not wearing it, or leave it at home. (That goes for any hotel room, not just that particular country.)

Personally, I would leave it at home. Not because of theft but because I would be worried about losing it. Between being on airplanes, the ocean, being in a hotel room...no thanks. I would personally leave it at my parents home (since being on vacation ours would be empty). I would either just wear my plain band or get a fake ring to wear if I didn't want to even take my band.

I wore my e-ring and wedding band on my entire honeymoon, including snorkeling and in the pool. I wear them on the beach when we go on vacation too. If your rings fit properly there shouldn't be an issue.

It's probably not a big deal, but I was thinking about this also. Even though I have insurance, my ring was handed down in my family- so if I lost it, to me, it would be worse than just losing a ring we bought. I am thinking that when I travel anywhere, I might just leave the e-ring and band at home.

I'm the same with annakay511. I wore my e-ring and wedding band on our honeymoon, in the ocean. Rarely ever take them off, nor did I ever take off my e-ring. They fit perfectly so it wasn't an issue and I just have a mindless habit with my thumb touching my ring finger "to check." BUT! It's your ring and it's up to you. If you're not comfortable taking it, leave it at home.

Got engaged in Jamaica. Wore my ring most of the times. Left in the Hotel safe the other times. If your ring fits well, what's wrong with wearing it.

I would never take my ring off. I wore it in Belize for 2 weeks and I am wearing it in Belize again for another week this month. I am much more concerned about leaving it anywhere than wearing it.

Why not wear your ring while you swim?

My FH proposed to me in Jamaica at couples tower isle in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. I left my ring in the room when i went into the water. they had a lock box. And i also went into town with it when i went shopping. You are fine. No one will steal or try to steal your ring. Jamaica is a very lovely place and the people are lovely as well.

I never take my ring off because I have the bad habit of setting things down and then not remembering where I put them. I just can't risk it! My ring fits well and I don't even feel it, so it doesn't bother me when traveling, swimming, showering, etc... If might get dirty a bit faster, but I just clean it regularly.

I'd personally leave it at home, which is no reflection specifically on Jamaica, but my habits in general....

I'm Jamaican. I would be uncomfortable leaving my ring in the safe in the States. It's that the ring is new and I'm still obsessed with it so I'm paranoid about parting with it. I don't shower with it, so I'm also not at the point where I'm comfortable having it on in the water. I don't typically wear jewelry in the water, so I was more interested in knowing if you guys have had issues swimming with your rings.

What is your ring made of. I was in Jamaica for a week this past summer and kept my ring on 100% of the time. I actually don't even take off my ring at all since I've gotten engaged 5 months ago. It's been fine.

We went to Jamaica on our honeymoon and I wore my e-ring/wedding band the whole time. So did H. There was a safe in our room at the resort but we left phones, wallets, that sort of thing in there. I never once felt like it was unsafe to wear them, and they fit properly so there wasn't a chance of them falling off. I wore them to scuba dive, snorkel, sail, all kinds of things. The only time I did take them off was when we swam with the dolphins, because that was a requirement so as to not scratch the dolphins with my ring. There were many other couples at our resort on their honeymoon and all of the ones I saw wore their rings, too.

We went to Jamaica on our honeymoon and I left my ring at home. I didn't think I would feel unsafe, but I was scared of losing it in the ocean. I take it off to go to the river or lake as well.

ETA: I bought a fake ring to wear anytime I take my e-ring off.

I had intended to leave mine at home and wear a fake when we went to Jamaica, but I couldn't bear to do it. Wore it snorkeling in the ocean, zip lining, etc. It was fine.
