taco bar enough food?

pia, on August 19, 2017 at 3:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 42

I want a taco bar at my wedding. my MIL thinks its fine but also thinks we need other choices for people that dont want tacos. this is what she suggested....

appetizers

spinach and artichoke dip, fruit, cheese & crackers, bbq meatballs.

meats

fried chicken, roast beef

sides

chopped salad, veggie pasta salad, and a baked potato bar.

too much? i dont really think we need all the extra food. i was thinking a taco bar would be fine on its own, (ETA: and appetizers) there would be a lot of options for the taco bar, so if someone doesnt want tacos they could make a salad, or just eat the meat by its self. maybe a taco bar and extra appetizers? im not sure.

Personally depending on how may guests you have I would say a taco bar would be fine and a few appetizers. If you have a lot of people that means more picky eaters so maybe include a little more.

My first opinion is it's YOUR wedding so do what you want! Maybe some type of meatless Mexican rice for the tacos for the vegetarians. Are you doing just beef tacos or chicken too? There are so many options for taco bars! Salsa, queso, dips, etc. I think you will be fine. Again, it's YOUR wedding! It's to celebrate YOU and YOUR FH!

@Sparky_B - oops i worded it wrong, i would definitely have appetizers no matter what!

@futuremrspolver- were expecting less than 70 people. thats a good point.

@Margo- yes we plan on having, steak, chicken, veggies, rice, chips, salsa, beans, guacamole, lettuce, sour cream and anything else that can go on a taco haha.

I don't think you have enough, but that's because I don't eat tacos at all.

We're doing a taco bar which includes hard and soft chicken and beef tacos, chicken fajitas and quesadillas. there will be all the fixings included. for our cocktail hour our caterer is setting up a nice veggie tray, a huge nacho table with sides and 2 appetizers. i think that should be enough, we have a semi small guest list.

What does your caterer suggest? They would be able to tell you how much would be enough for the number of people you are expecting.

No offense but the menu your FMIL suggest seems a little all over the place. A taco bar, fried chicken, and roast beef?

Is your MIL willing to pay for these other options?

If she is, why not take her up on that? Because, to be honest, I'd be okay with a taco. I'd be THRILLED with a taco, a nice piece of fried chicken, a couple of salads and a baked potato.

I personally don't think a taco bar on its own is enough. It seems very skimpy to be honest. I think you MIL is right and you should consider additional options.

Also, Margo is wrong. It not just YOUR wedding when you are inviting other people. The reception is for guests so it's important to feed them well!

If you can afford it, it would be good to have some non-taco options. Hard to believe, but not everyone likes tacos.

I'd go for non-taco options as well. Granted, this might have been self-catered, but a wedding with a taco bar I recently attended was...less than impressive.

Keep in mind also that tacos are quite messy.

Would I side-eye a taco bar ... absolutely not, I love tacos. Not everyone is a taco fan though, I would definitely add other options. I assume your plan is to do a buffet, people will most likely take a little of everything to try - I know I do when I attend weddings that have a buffet. I am on your FMIL's side, I think you should add other offerings.

I am having a taco bar essentially. We will have 2 meats a ton of veggies, chips salsa, guac, queso. We have 75 ppl so I'd say you'll have plenty depending how many ppl. Be careful with too much food, what you listed doesn't really go together but as long as guests have a full stomach it'll be alright!

More food is better. Keep in mind people will be dancing meaning even more hungry. I went to one wedding where wasn't enough food and it was tacky
