Taco Bar during wedding reception??

Amber, on June 8, 2014 at 7:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

Has anyone ever had one? Our original idea for food got scratched, now we are thinking of a new food idea.. Im not sure how much it would cost, I would think might be pretty cheap. Maybe 120 for around 50 people? What do you think? If you had a taco bar what would you be sure to include..

I love tacos, sounds delicious for a fairly casual wedding!

I'd go with both soft and hard shells, maybe two types of meat (chicken and beef), some cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream, salsa, taco sauce, then probably some sides of spanish/mexican rice and beans. And of course you'd have to make sure a lot of the toppings stay cold (sour cream shouldn't sit out for long!)

ETA: I think some different tortilla chips would be great too (like the ones with the lime flavoring) and if you wanted maybe some queso dip to go with it. Man I really want tacos now!

Awesome idea. We're having a mac n' cheese bar. Toppings are things like asparagus tips and bacon and crunchy breadcrumbs.

Don't forget the healthier options like cubed avocado in addition to the normal guac, sauteed veggies, and black beans! big pans of enchiladas (make ahead, freeze, defrost a day before and throw them in the oven-cheap and fast!!)

That sounds like fun! It may be easier to contact a restaurant with catering like Chipotle, Moe's or Qdoba for this-way less stress for you and they have a ton of options. I think they even include chips & salsa as well. I can't see your area but think about what's easiest for you guys & what fits your budget.

Love that idea! Personally I like corn and black beans in my tacos. Also don't forget some different sauces!

This is a great idea! we are doing a cocktail reception with heavy hors/appetizers.. i may steal this idea too so there is absolutely no threat of running out of food! we are good with the menu and will order plenty, but i love this as a buffer too Smiley smile. thanks for the idea!

I second the chipotle idea. i bet their prices aren't terrible.. but who knows! definitely sour cream and maybe a few difference salsas - like a hot and mild?

    Tacos are awesome-sauce...

You should also consider getting a quote from Chipotle...You know they have a catering service right. Might be less stress on trying to make sure you have all the ingrediants...

If you want to DIY it, then I suggest both hard and soft shells, black beans and/or refried beans, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, guacamole, chips (for the dippers), sour cream, ground beef, steak, and chicken as options. Maybe fried corn and rice as side options...

I love tacos but I just looked into Chipotle's catering...it will cost way more than $120 for 50 people! So just a head's up. I think it was about $13/person with no sides/chips/anything else. Still a decent deal.

You might also want bowls and lettuce so people can have salads if they want, and some beans as a veggie options like some said above.

I would love going to a wedding that served tacos at the reception, as long as I knew ahead of time so I could dress accordingly!

Chipotle is pricey. we are buying all of our own food so it cuts a ton of the expenses down. i am also having taco salad with my taco bar. we really have a variety of food!

Not sure where you are located...but Rosa's Tortilla Factory will do catering and they are so reasonably priced. Or a local Mexican food restaurant favorite of you guys will also cater and probably cut you guys a good deal. Everything everyone else has suggested sounds perfect. Just make sure you have enough options and its not just beef, taco shells. The sides are what make a taco bar really awesome! Good luck! Love the idea!
