Table setting help?

Sasha, on August 14, 2019 at 10:44 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7

Hi, so I bought these really cute paper watercolor plates thinking we would serve the food family style at the table, but the caterer told me it has to be buffet style where everyone goes and lines up. Can i still put my cute plates at the tables and just tell everyone to bring them to the buffet, or will that be too confusing for the guests? I was planning to put them over top a record as the charger (finace is a DJ and has 40,000 records, so shedding 100 will be no problem). The plan was white table cloth, black record as charger, watercolor paper-plate over that, napkin with fork &knife wrapped inside with a little heart tag with a funny hip hop lyric about food. The whole look is off if the watercolor plate isn't there.

I thought about buying a bunch more cheaper paper plates and putting them at the buffet station, but that seems silly too, then they have to put the other plate overtop the watercolor plate when they get to the table. Blah, it's too silly to even talk about with anyone, but to me it feels like it matters a lot.

Any input would be helpful, thanks!

I think your idea would be fine, it doesn’t seem confusing. Guests use the colorful plate for their first helping, if they want more food they can use a buffet plate. Your charger idea is CUTE! I hope you share photos of the finished look.
We’re doing similar with a fancier plate at the tables for our buffet. We have gold filigree trim plates at tables and plain white buffet plates stacked next to the food. Guests will figure it out!

Thanks, I am now leaning towards either printing a circular shaped menu and putting that on top of the record, and then having the watercolor plates by the buffet. Or putting these cute doily things on the records, then the napkin bundle thing on top of them. Crisis averted, LOL. God if one of my friends was laboring over each detail so much I'd probably tell her to cut it out, but I can't seem to help it, I want each detail to be just so.

Hey Sasha! Your watercolor plates are so cute! Your idea to have them at the table settings for your guests is totally fine if you decide that you want to go back to that idea.

On the other hand, I love those colorful doilies that you found and will look equally great on top of your record charger plates (great idea by the way!!).

I know that you want to plan every detail but whatever you decide, your guests will figure it out!

I don't think it's confusing, but I would have your DJ announce to take the plates to the buffet and I would also build a few extra minutes into your timeline because some of your guests will inevitably forget.

I like the record charger idea, but I think I'd just keep the plates at the buffet and have folded napkins with silverware on top of the records.
