SWR - first dress fitting and unshaven legs...

Asian~Wife, on July 13, 2010 at 1:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

I just realized this morning that I am going to have to go to my first fitting on Friday with uber hairy legs. I have a waxing appt on Saturday morning so I can't shave. I am super embarrassed.. should I be upfront with the shop lady when she helps me put the dress on? And just laugh about it? Ignore it and say nothing? Help! It's probably silly to worry about, but I feel very self-conscious about it.

She won't care. If you are that aware of it and would be embarrased- wear panty hose and some the wedding shoes.

But I guarantee she won't care, if she even notices.

Make up some ridiculous story, like how your wedding is hobbit-themed. She'll understand.

LMAO "hobbit-themed." Hilarious. OK, thanks ladies... I'm sure I'm making more of a deal out of it than it is. Smiley smile

Trust me, I work at a bridal shop, unshaven legs are the least of our worries. There are people who don't shave under their arms, people who smell REALLY bad, people who are so sweaty I don't even want to touch them to lace them up, etc etc.. lol

Is your dress short? If not, your legs probably wont be a problem at all. When we do fittings the lady rarely even sees or touches a girls legs, and if so its for a brief second to reach under the dress or something, and she isn't really paying attention to her legs. But if it would make you feel better about it just say "So sorry! I have a waxing appointment tomorrow and can't shave!" and just make light of it; however, that might just bring it to her attention and then she'll REALLY notice it lol

... people who don't shave their underarms. WTH?! I think the part about people smelling really bad would be the worse though... -_- What is wrong with people? They know they're going to a fitting so why don't they shower?!

Ok, at least my underarms are in good shape!! Smiley smile No, the dress is long. You're right - she would only see it when I step into the dress. And the good news is that if she accidentally touches my leg, it's not coarse because it's so long! haha!!

Miya- I once had a girl who came in for an appointment to pick out her wedding dress not wearing any underwear... at all. I mean, most zippers and lace up backs go way lower than your back. So I saw her bare butt every single time I went into the dressing room to help her get zipped up. She knew that's what she was going to be doing that day, why not at least wear a thong??

    Kat: Ha! I love it.

As kk points out, it's not like your legs are going to be very visible, and I'm sure the people at the shop understand about waxing.

And finally, it's not as if unshaven legs are grotesque. I realize that many people feel strongly about shaving; I shave when I wear skirts because it's the path of least resistance and I'm not immune to cultural conditioning. But it's not as if it's smelly or injurious to bystanders.

Yeah, Cabell, I agree with you. I'd rather have someone with hairy legs or underarms than someone who smells bad lol

    No underwear??? Wooowww.

Cabell - mine is injurious when it's first growing. LOL I'm sure the friction could cause a fire! Smiley winking j/k You're right, though.. thanks for reassuring me.

Ha! Yeah, really, they'll be grateful that they're REALLY hairy and not just starting to GET hairy--that's when there's a risk of injury. :p

(I actually had to tell poor DS last night that he needed to stop rubbing his face on my shoulder because the two days' worth of stubble was PAINFUL.)

I assure you as a professional in her field, the last thing on her mind will be your hairy legs. If by some reason it happens to come up in conversation, well then tell her the truth.

    Best Wishes and Blessings,

Can I say this? I'm honestly afriad to post on here. I'm worried someone will pull this stuff back out and send it to my husband on FB.

I don't shave my legs too often, only when I'm wearing a skirt or something. (I don't do shorts). As for my underarms, they get it about every other day.

    Hope this helps!

Today is the big day! Can't wait to finally see if my dress is too big or just right or worse... too small! :0

I didn't shave my legs for either of the three times I went to my dress shop and tried on mine, so it's no biggie. LOL. Right now, mine are so hairy that you can see them (and feel them) blowing in the wind. :-x

I can't shave with anything but a Shick Quattro and frankly, we've /had bigger more important things to do with our money. BUT!!! , those babies are mine again LMAO.

LMAO Kali - mine are the same way!! My legs are like a forest. I also use the Quattro, but it seems like even if my legs feel smooth, there are still black dots under the skin... so I am going to try waxing them tomorrow and see if I like it. Smiley smile
