Sweetheart Table or Head Table?

ChrisK126, on April 6, 2015 at 6:17 PM

I figured while I was on this board I would get your opinions on this... FH and I have not decided yet on whether we want a traditional head table or a sweetheart table. I know there are pros and cons to both. Just curious what other people went with and how it worked out! Thanks!

We are doing the sweetheart, my understanding is that with the sweetheart you sit down and get fed first and then eat fast and spend the rest of dinner going around to everyone's tables. If you sit with your bridal party you are going to hang out with them like a guest and neglect all of the people that have come there to see you

    What is a sweetheart table?

Alternately, what' the etiquette for who the bride and groom sit with if there is no bridal party?

We're either doing a sweetheart table or we will sit with our families. We want our bridal party to sit with their SO and friends so they can have fun (and not feel like they're on display). I'm also kind of an introvert, so I know that I'll want a little break from talking to everyone and eat my dinner with just Dan, so I'm leaning toward sweetheart.

@purplekitten a sweetheart table is a small table for just you and your husband during the reception (basically for the dinner part). Some people like it because it gives you a nice intimate moment with your SO during the wedding, some don't like it because they feel on display and they want to be with their wedding party.

@ purplekitten - A sweetheart table is just for the bride & groom to sit at.

We're doing a head table. Just recently sweetheart tables are being done in my area. The first wedding I went to that had a sweetheart table, everyone was in an uproar that the bride & groom had one and the BP was sitting with the rest of the guests.

I've always looked at head tables as a way to acknowledge the BP. Pretty much everyone in our BP is married to each other so they don't have an issue with the head table and my single BM and GM don't have a problem sitting at the head table.

It was a sweetheart table for us. It's not fair for the bridal party to have to sit without their guests.

We're doing a sweetheart table! That is what's most common in our area. I sat on a head table once, I absolutely hated that I couldn't sit with my FH.

We're doing a sweetheart table. I would feel more on display at a head table than at the sweetheart table. Plus I do want to be able to enjoy some time with FH even if that's just while we're eating.

I have pretty much only seen head tables in my area, so that will definitely be what we are having. Lucky all of the SOs from our wedding party will fit nicely into tables where they know someone, be it friends or family, so I am not at all worried about people being split up. Plus most of our wedding party are huge dancers, so they will be out there cutting a rug the first chance they get, so they can spend time with their SOs on the dance floor Smiley smile

We're doing a head table. I want everyone to sit with us and for them to be able to sit with their dates.

We're doing a sweetheart table for the reasons everyone has also stated but also because we plan on getting up and walking around to say hi to people while dinner is going on, so we won't even be there that long! We may do the "pinterest" idea of adding two chairs so that people can come up and sit and talk with us for a couple of minutes if they want to.

We're doing a sweetheart table pretty much for the reason other people aren't lol. We're both very theatrical so the idea of being on display doesn't bother us a bit Smiley tongue

We have 7 BMs and 5 GM, I had a friend who did a Kings table and said it was great...

As far as the backs to people, we have round tables so everyone has backs to something at some point, I don't think it will be that big of a deal.

FutureMrsT - Our table is going to be pretty big but a lot of our BP are friends so I am just making sure that the groups of friends in the BP parties are sitting near or across from each other so they can talk!
