Supportive strapless bras? Do they exist?

Beth, on March 17, 2015 at 9:40 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

So the woman who's doing my alterations wants me to give her a strapless bra so she can sew the cups into my dress (the dress has a deep open back). The problem is finding a strapless bra that doesn't suck. I'm not huge but not small either (34C) and I've been told by my doctor that they're "dense" so they're heavy and don't like strapless bras much...

Any thoughts? What's worked for you?

I just posted something about looking for bras as well..I was told definitely dont go with the VS bombshell add 2 cups(thats the one i thought of buying) but many recommended the very sexy VS strapless bras and people did recommend getting the cups sewn in. So is that what the seamstresses mean by sewing cups in? they just sew a bra in? I get fitted in July and am looking for a good bra too! I dont live near a VS so i have to order online.

I've heard a lot of praise for these types --> http://www.target.com/p/lingerie-solutions-a-brand-of-fashion-forms-women-s-backless-strapless-bra/-/A-14152676#prodSlot=medium_1_10&term=strapless+bra

backless/strapless bras that apparently have supported D's. I would research them and read the reviews for yourself to see if they're worth the try!

Wait she's going to sew a bra into the dress?? Hmm that's strange, I've never heard of them doing it like that...

Anyways, I've only found 1 strapless bra that I think works well (I'm 34C also). It's from VS but I can't remember what line.

    @Maltese...I thought the same thing.

And since I can't really wear a bra with the dress because of the back, she said she would take the bra and I guess cut it apart and sew the cups into the dress. It was either that or buy those weird stick on cups that never work for me. I'm pleasantly surprised by the Walmart and target results, though Smiley laugh

Yes, it's normal to sew cups into a dress. I will probably use a VS sexy for mine (cups only, my back is really low as well.)

No no, my seamstress gave me the option of sewing cups into the dress also. Just not like... a bra I go out and buy so she can cut it up and put it in there. I'd never heard of that before. I guess there they already had different options for the cups and you just chose the ones you wanted and they sew them in. idk lol

I am going to follow this. My dress will need cups sewn in or a great bra. I love the idea of the cups so I don't have to mess with the bra, however I'd like a bit of a lift and I'm not convinced the sewn in cups can provide that adequately. I am also a bit confused why she needs you to get a bra. Shouldn't she have access to just the cups?

I just ordered a Wacoal one from Amazon, it got amazing reviews from people DD and larger (being one of the DDD tribe can have its drawbacks), so I'll keep you posted. Here's the link:

    http://www.amazon.com/Wacoal-Womens-Plus-Size-Strapless-Cappuccino/dp/B00H8EPGBE/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1426616101&sr=1-1&keywords=strapless+bra

I'm hoping it can be sewn into the dress, as well, but was sort of dreading bringing it up with my seamstress lol good to know it's been done before!

Soma has a really good strapless bra but its straight across so probably won't work if you have a sweetheart neckline

    Its call "stunning support"

    thats my favorite one

I have only ever worn one strapless bra that could hold these puppies up (size 40G), but that is because it was purchased at a boutique for large busted ladies, and it had a thick strap that was lined with rubber (to keep it from slipping). If I were to have removed the back/strap to just have cups in a dress, it would have been useless. Having said that you are not quite as large chested lol so perhaps you won't have as many problems, but I know if it were me, it wouldn't work out. The dress would probably end up falling (collapsing under the sheer weight of these mamajamas) and I'd end up flashing everyone. :p

Va Bien. I have this, works remarkably well (I'm a 34D). I highly recommend this website for information about proper fit, etc.

By the way, this has "lift" power. Keeps everything in place, which is no small feat for larger breasted women in strapless dresses, especially if there's any weight to the dress. Best of luck!

I have tried the Wacaol bra, and I was shocked at how well it supported my 38DDDs...honestly, I tried the Va Bien Extreme Push Up Bustier, and it didn't really do what I had hoped. I found mine on Amazon, I'll post the link here:

Yes, they do exist. I got mine at DB. It was a corset type. I have DD boobies (real) and it was fab!

I was professionally fitted and to hold my girls up she had to go down a size on the band. It's tight enough to hold them up, and tight enough I need help getting in it, but it is still comfortable!

    ETA: My bra is a 34J I think. It's an elomie 8500.

I'm still really confused, your seamstress is cutting up a strapless bra? If so, doesnt matter what ones support well.

PS I use duct tape and it works like a charm

Oh hello thread brought back to life! (: and I had another fitting a few days ago. She actually said sewing cups in won't work, she didn't realize how heavy they were when I bought the dress. Now I need a supportive bra with a super low back...here I go.
