Sunscreen on my Wedding Day

Valerie, on August 23, 2015 at 7:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

So I burn SUPER easily. My friend and I went to the park we're getting married at last weekend. We were there less than an hour, and my shoulders and chest were a bit red. I'm wearing a strapless dress, and we're getting married outside. How do I ensure I don't burn? Is there a sunscreen that isn't going to make me all shiny? And isn't going to smell like sunscreen? lol.

I don't want to burn and then go on our honeymoon and not be able to get in the hottub because it will hurt my sunburn.

I like the Neutrogena one that comes in a white/blue tube. It sets with a pretty dry feel that I can use it on my face and not feel bothered. Sephora carries some spf sprays that I've used as finishing sprays to set my face make up for daytime.

I burn really easy too; in 30 min or less if it's sunny out. I like to use the spray on sports sunscreen. They aren't greasy like most lotions so they don't make your skin shiny or sticky. It does feel weird on any body hairs for the first 10 or so minutes while it dries, but that goes away. And they are super easy to apply.

I second the neutrogena; their sheer line is great and the only thing that I wear. It comes in a spray for the body too, but I use the liquid on my face under makeup and stuff in the summer and I love it.

I went to the lake yesterday and was terrified I would burn. I used a neutrogena spray sunscreen. No redness or burn!

That is a great sunscreen, but keep in mind that sunscreen may photograph a little shiny and white. I would ask your makeup artist for recommendations

I also recommend the neutrogena! Try a spray, they have one that has a cooling effect that is super nice. I find it doesn't leave the white marks that the regular lotion does.

We're on a very tight budget...so no makeup artist. I'm doing my own.

I'll have to look into Neutrogena.

How long is your ceremony? Is your entire reception outside? Is there shade? Is it at a time of day that there would be a lot of sun (not at sunset, for example?)

I burn insanely easily (redhead--still have visible marks from my SIL's graduation in May). My ceremony was outside just before sunset and the reception was indoors. Since it was only the 20 minutes of the ceremony and the time for pictures beforehand, I decided not to use sunscreen (even though I always do) because I didn't want pictures to turn out weird. I was totally fine and didn't have redness or anything.

I really like Ocean Potion. You can get it at Walmart. It doesn't have the gross sunscreen smell and dries matte.

I love the Hawaiian Tropic Sunscreens for my body, because they smell like coconut and not like sunscreen. Some of them have some sheer inside them though, so make sure to check them before.

For the face, I second Neutrogena. I'm using their 50 face lotion and it says you can put it under makeup. It's really thick, but it works perfectly.
