Sunday, Memorial Day weekend wedding

2018wedding, on January 14, 2017 at 12:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 35

Has anyone had their wedding (or were in attendance) on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend?

Just curious,

How was the turnout?

Invitation decline rate?

Did the guest leave early?

This is the best option for my family and I.

I wouldn't attend a wedding on Memorial Day weekend. That's just me though. Some people might, but given it's a holiday with a very specific meaning I would not have my wedding then.

We held our wedding the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. We had a decent turnout likely because guests could still carry out the rest of their holiday weekend plans beginning on Saturday. I think you could have an increased decline rate on that Sunday.

Ours is on Sunday before Memorial Day. But it's a DW. So guest are either coming or they aren't. Only you know your crowd. If you have a lot of military VIP guest than it might not be the best weekend.

Mine will be. I can let you know afterwards, or closer to the date whether there's a lot of declines.

I've been a guest on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. It was annoying and I wasn't super happy about it since it was smack in the middle of the weekend and we had to travel 1.5 hours to get to it. because most people had to travel about that far, most were staying at the hotel and no one really left early. Since there's no work the next day there would be no need to leave early even if it was local. I definitely had fun, i just wasn't crazy about giving up one of the few long weekends I get a year.

It really depends on your crowd. Where I live it is the last weekend of summer, most people like to go away. OTOH, if most of your guests are parents, and school starts before then, most will be back. For observant Jews, any Sunday of a 3 day weekend books up early. If you have a lot of out of town VIPs it may work well.

@Karen, Memorial day isnt the last weekend of summer. That is Labor Day. OP, I am having a tiny DW that weekend, and my guests preferred it because it was a three day weekend for them.

My wedding is the Thursday before. I am expecting a lot of declines (180 invited guests), but send out STDs 6 months or more in advance.

I am also doing the Sunday of that weekend this year. We sent out our save the dates earlier than usual so people had a heads up and could plan.

So far with our celebration being a destination one we have a pretty good number of ppl rsvp. No one had complained about it being before the holiday but happy bc they get a 3day weekend to enjoy.

Ours is the Sunday before memorial day this year. No one has given me any reason that they can't come regarding it being a holiday, in fact a lot of people are using it as an excuse to take a vacation that weekend lol we also live in a beach town so I guess that makes it easier

Who are all these people who go away? We do weddings every single MDW and the turnout is pretty much what was expected. This year, I have weddings from Thursday through Monday morning.

I don't get it; if someone can't give up one day of a holiday weekend to be at your wedding, then they shouldn't even be on the guest list.

Celia, my husband gets very few days off from work, we cherish the days off he does get. So we would be those people that want to do something we planned for ourselves on a long weekend rather than go to someone's wedding.

Everyone I know goes camping that weekend and reserve the camp site well in advance. I wouldn't want them to change their plans. Also it is the weekend before kids go back to school so depending on your guests a lot of people may be busy or out of town.

I went to one last year and @Nicole's response pretty much sums up my experience as well. I think it really depends on your crowd.
