Summer wedding - no a/c - help!

FutureMrsN14, on February 27, 2017 at 5:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Hi everyone! I fell in love with a venue that only has summer availability and no A/C! We were thinking a 6pm outdoor ceremony and the reception would be covered in shade and has giant ceiling fans. Will it be too hot and humid for guests? Does anyone have experience with this? A July/August outdoor wedding with shade and fans but no A/C? Thank you!!

*I'm in MD and spoke to another bride who had their wedding at the same venue in July- she said it was not bad and would recommend! - however it could be 70s or it could be closer to 90!

There's a reason why they only have summer availability. No one wants to subject their guests to that. Keep looking and find a different venue.

Whether this will be okay entirely depends on where you are located. As a guest I would not be thrilled about no A/C, especially not after an outdoor ceremony.

I am pretty sure I would be miserable. Think of your guests in their formal attire (guys with layers!!! ugh), and even you in a wedding dress! Find another place so you don't risk people sweating through their nice clothes, and suffering through a hot formal event.

My venue had an outside part and inside. We at first decided to the ceremony outside, and reception inside. We changed our minds though. We're going to spend the extra money and hire a crew of people to set up the reception after the ceremony during cocktail hour so everyone can be cool in AC. Because you have to think, in the summer mosquitoes are BAD. The sun also doesn't set until almost 8:00 (I live in Texas) and it's still blistering hot. What really made me chose what I was trying on wedding dresses. I was sweating in the dress in the AC. I couldn't imagine being in that thing in 100 degree weather.

Hells to the no. I'd be out after the cocktail hour.

I would be completely miserable as I tend to get extra hot in the summers. Don't do it! Keep looking. You'll find one that's perfect and has a/c!

The fact that they only have availability in the summer with no AC should be a huge red flag!

Where are you located?? In Northern CA it will be about 70 degrees in July with an ocean breeze. If it's 100 that's not going to work.

Nope. Anywhere in the summer has a chance of being extremely hot and humid in the summer. Find somewhere indoor with air conditioning.

Heat and humidity can quickly cause a ton of health issues for your guests. Especially if you have any elderly guests or guests who already have medical issues. Do you want to risk someone passing out or something worse?

I think it depends on the average temperature/humidity in your area during that time of the year. Some people here are from areas where you don't leave the house in the summer. To them, doing a summer wedding outside at all is preposterous. Personally, I'm doing a 6 p.m. ceremony in July and I'm not worried. However, we have no humidity and cool nights in the summer.

    Try looking at usclimatedata.com

    http://www.usclimatedata.com

and putting the average numbers into the "heat index" calculator:

    https://www.weather.gov/epz/wxcalc_heatindex

It will tell you what the temperature will "feel" like based on the temp and the humidity. Use that number to see whether it's in the "comfortable" or "caution" categories. If it's comfortable, go for it. If it's "caution," not so much.
