Suggestions for throwing a bridal shower with no registry...

Casey, on August 9, 2013 at 11:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I am serving as a BM in my girlfriends wedding next year, me and the other BM's are having a difficult time trying to think of ideas for what to do as far as a bridal shower for her. Her and her fiance have lived together for several years and are not in need of anything, so they are just asking for gift cards and doing a honeymoon registry. Was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or any suggestions about how to plan a shower without opening gifts so it won't be awkward. (Bride and Groom are also not open to having a Jack and Jill shower) Thanks!!

What about a recipe shower? Everyone brings a recipe to share and maybe a spice used to make it or something? Might be better to assign spices?

Or could do a pamper the bride theme? People could give things like manicures, massages, vs gift cards, items for honeymoon (luggage and stuff)

Lingerie & linens theme? Pretty self explanatory

I had a similar situation. I had my registry because some people just HAVE to get you a gift and don't feel comfortable giving money. I also registered for gift cards to Home Depot and Raymore&Flannagan...I ended up getting cards for almost every store, except those Smiley smile People will give what they want to give or what's convenient for them.

Can you do a "themed" shower? I'm not a huge fan of these but it might be fun in this case ...

    Lingerie, wine, recipes ...

My friend did a "blush the bride" invite card and it said to bring lingerie, people brought that and gifts. And I wasn't registered until 2 days before so no one knew lol

FMIL had a friend get married not long ago, and they did a lingerie shower too. For me, that would depend on the guests that would be invited, I wouldn't want to open that stuff in front of some of my relatives!

Thanks for all the suggestions! W

e have talked about doing a stock the bar/wine theme, and incorporate some kind of wine tasting as well. We had brought up the idea of incorporating some of the lingere ideas mentioned, however the bride is very modest and probably won't enjoy that as much as some others.

I really appreciate all the great ideas, they are very helpful!

My MOH is out of state and BM was trying to figure out how to throw me a shower when nobody from my side would be here. I told her not to worry about it and suggested that maybe just the key players that are here get together for a luncheon and centerpiece making. Everyone said they would be helping me and so far that has been BM going with me dress shopping but other than that they all act like there is a ton of time left. I would love to have FHs sisters and mom all in one place at same time to say hey if you want to help could you.....
