Student to hire for wedding hair, nails, and makeup?

TwoPs, on May 7, 2015 at 12:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Have either roof you had experience with this? I made a trial appointment for my hair an makeup at the Salon Professional Academy/Summit Salon. It's a beauty school. Hair is $23, MU is $12.50, and a mani/pedi is $31.50. It's significantly cheaper than going to Sephora or MAC and it's RIGHT down the street from my house, where as the other places are a 25 minute drive. I'm looking for a very natural look and nothing TOO heavy--though, I know it has to be heavier than normal because of pictures and what not. What do you guys think? Have you had experience with a beauty school as your wedding day look?

I got my hair done at a beauty school when I was a bridesmaid. It turned out okay for pictures, but didn't last the night. Would you be able to do a trial? Can they guarantee the same hairstylist and MUA would be available for your wedding?

I used to get my hair done by students (not for a weeding, just in general.) they usually did a really good job but they are super duper slow. They obviously want to take their time and do well, which is great, but keep that in mind for your timeline. A simple hair cut that would normally take 30-45 minutes took 3 hours once.

My sister had her hair done at a beauty school for her wedding day and the girl burned my sisters face. She had a blister on her cheek at her wedding, my sister was so upset. She went to Sephora and they airbrushed her makeup on so that it wouldn't be too bad. Just be careful.

Yeah I've been burned once by a student, but I've always gotten everything done at our local beauty school, and they've nearly always been perfect. I'd likely be going there is fgmil didn't offer her services (she's a hairstylist and owns a salon) but I'll likely be going to the school for my acrylics!

I will not be getting a cut. Just a style...like a braid and messy bun...i'm going for a laid back-chic look.

Also, they said they will guarantee the same people for the day of the wedding too. It'll just saw me so much time and money. They said the hair styling will take a maximum of 2 hours and makeup will only be about 30 minutes.

I would be okay with mani/pedi for the wedding but nothing else. Especially for your wedding day. I just wouldn't risk it. If my nails weren't perfect it would suck but I would be livid if my hair and makeup weren't on point.

I wouldn't do it for weddings. As a child my dad would take me and my sisters to beauty schools all the time to get our hair and nails done. We didn't know any difference. They are way slower, and can only do certain things. The last time I went to a hair school to get a wash a set (about 4 years ago) I was told the level students that were there could not use any heat (so no irons) only blow dry and dryers. Also if you do a trial you cant be sure its going to be the same person when you come in the next time. I have a hairstyle now I let FH's cousin do for FREE... it took twice as long as with professionals and requires much more upkeep to maintain but it was FREE, and I don't have anything in particular I need to look great for. But my hair is face is not someone I would cut corners with on my wedding day.
