Stretch marks... =(

Cassie, on September 9, 2010 at 10:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

Okay, so i quit smoking about a year ago and gained about 75 in 6 months. i have stretch marks EVERYWHERE and i mean i places i dint think were possible. they are really really dark and i've gone through like 3 jars and 2 tubes of different types of stretchmark creams. i followed the dirrections exactly and they all said that i should notice a chance in a couple weeks. i havent seen ANYTHING! i guessi really only care about the ones under my arms... and any that would be seen in the removing of the garter. its so unfair! i dont even weigh 200 pounds and im really not all that big! i mean my dress is a size 18 but i have to have it taken in a little. i just dont want to be self consious on my wedding day. i wanna be able to enjoy every minute of it!

Hey ummm ok this sounds SO unbelievably (sp?) I need a damn spell checker... that sounds like me! I quit smoking in march of 2009. and gained 60 something lbs... I thought oh this is related to the smoking... NOPE I have PCOS. I was basically going into menopause at 23... I am 100% insulin resistant... you need to get to the DR! It isnt a game with your health... if you are like me and have an insulin problem it is bad for your kidneys and liver dear!!! Not that any of this helps the stretch mark problem.. but please see a dr.!!

Yes please see a doctor. Also exercise will help to elimate the strechmarks. You can't get rid of them but the look of the eye by loosing weight you will not see as much.

Please see a doctor. Gaining that much weight is not because you stopped smoking- it's because you substituted one bad habit with another!

I had a significant weight gain in a short period of time and ran into the same problem. I started do some research on stretch marks and unfortunately, they're not as easy to get rid of as slathering on some cream. I went through 3 bottles of a really expensive brand to get little to no actual results.

Stretch marks will fade will time and become lighter and less noticeable. If all you're concerned about is your underarms you might want to try a make up trick to hide them. One of my friends used the tattoo covering make up on the back of her knees when she was a BM in her sister's wedding. It looked great and no one could tell. Hope you figure something out.

I agree that you should be making an appt to see the doctor but as far as the stretch marks go... what about finding a make-up artist that uses airbrushing and having them hidden by airbrushing. I have hear that it is incredibly effective.

I've been to a dr and they only told me to cut my calories down to 1000 a day and that should make me lose weight... i gained 10 lbs by doing that! i've had all sorts of tests done because they thought it was my thyroid or other things, but it wasnt so idk. I have lots and LOTS of stress tho and they said to just take vitamins for it. I work out at least once a week and whenever else that i can fins time between school and work and homework and everything else that i have going on. i will definiately look into the make up artist thing. my only concern is that it would be on the insides of my arms, the side that will rub on my dress... my white dress.. but im thinking that maybe tanning just a little bit would help.

You can cover the stretch marks with airbrush makeup. I have used it for that purpose before. it is water resistant and smear resistant

and will ensure that they do not show up in photos. check out my page!

I have some on my stomach from having my daughter 2 years ago. They just started fading a few months ago and now they are really light and not too noticeable. But I think the only way to get rid of them is laser surgery. Other than that, they are there to stay. Also, if you tan, they will look a little more noticeable. Tanning will darken them. You should probably go with the airbrush make up

I'm right there with you. I have them from my waist (not where I wear my pants, the smalles part of my body) all the way down to almost my ankles & they are BAD. I weighed 90 pounds for about 6 years & I was underweight. When I went on the depo shot when I was 16, I gained 60 pounds in about a year, if not less. I'm now at 185 & am overweight. My stretch marks are very dark & very deep. They are too the point that they hurt when their touched. My wedding is in 50 days, so I'm not worrying about it now, but after the wedding I'm enrolling in a gym & getting a personal trainer to loose atleast 60 pounds. I've told this will help make the stretch marks invisible to the eye (when glanced at) & obviously will make me feel better about my body. Imagine going from 90 pounds to 185 pounds in less than 2 years...it's not pretty & I hate how I look now. I can't look in the mirror for longer than a minute or two to put make-up on. (cont.)

(cont.) I've never worked out a day in my life, so it will be tough, but I need my self esteem back. My advice is to first, go to the doctor & second, see about joining a gym or going on a diet. Good luck! Smiley laugh

I would be careful with tanning because usually stretch marks won't tan. My sister has them on her lower abdomen from having my nephew, 14 years ago, and they won't tan. Not even with self tanners. But everyone could be different. I have stretch marks under my arms, too, but they aren't too badly noticeable. I just keep my arms down most of the time. I went on birth control at 16 and weighed 135lb. At my 1 year check up I was 181lb. My gyno almost had a heart attack, took me off the ortho and put me on a lower hormone pill.. but seeing as you quit smoking and gained it was probably eating habits that caused the gain. Everyone I've known to quit has had the same issue, you just have to learn to eat fruit and veggies in place of bad things like cookies. And drink lots of water in place of sodas. Last year I went from about 275 to 207 in less than 6 months. Lots of healthy food, water and exercising.

My marks are really dark colored tho, like red not the white ones that most ppl have... i am excercising as much as i have time for. i actually eat really healthy for a college student and i try to do stress reliving things as much as i can. i just feel like im doing everything that i can. plus im very very active at my job. i guess im not as totally concerned with the weight as i am the stretch marks tho. i'd love a personal trainer, but i probably can't afford one.

I feel you on the stretch mark issue, had a great body, then BAM my daughter had to ruin it.... jk. its so bad that FS has not seen me completely naked EVER! TMI but fact, I did tanning and it kind helped but then some people are different. I got lucky that it helped blend a bit, but others it might help it stand out! so becareful

All those stretch mark creams do is help put the elasticity back in your skin, you have to lose the weight for them to help you. I used one everyday when I was pregnant with my daughter, gained 35lbs and they were barely visible after I had her and was back within 5-10 lbs of my pre-preggers weight, so they do work but the weight that is stretching your skin has to go first. I had an IUD put in after I had my daughter and the first few years were fine and then over the last year and a half I gained 40 lbs between the hormones, my metabolism slowing down and eating habits. Just cutting out 90% of my pop intake and replacing it with tea and water and eating a little bit better I've lost almost 10lbs. But things like stress and metabolism are hard to beat and even taking a vitamin to speed up my metabolism isn't really helping, it just seems to make me even hungrier. I have new stretch marks from the weight gain in my thighs and underside of my arms but I'm concentrating on the weightlos
