Street Signs instead of Table Numbers?!?1

Santana, on July 25, 2012 at 11:06 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

Our theme is "Old Detroit" and we are thinking of having Detroit inspired street names on the table instead of table numbers. My FH thinks we should only do table number because it will be easier for the waiters to bring out the food and for people to find their tables. I said we could just do both and incorporate the street signs into the center piece. Do you think it would be too cluttered. Below is a draft of what the signs will look like. I like the Eggplant one.

I think street signs are a great idea! I've been to lots of weddings that had table names instead of table numbers. I don't think it would be an issue at all.

If you do just the street names, make sure that you have a good map with the seating cards, otherwise people might have trouble finding the tables (with numbers you have a definite sequence making them easier to find). Are you going to put them on some sort of pole? If so, put the sign on the pole, and maybe put a number on the top of the pole?

As for the caterer, give them a seating chart with both number and name on them. If they are professional, you are probably not the first wedding with table names instead of numbers.

I really like the idea! I am doing wine varietals for table names, but will also incorporate a number. I like the eggplant one too, matches my colors as well :-)

We did street signs at our wedding -- but New Orleans streets since that's where we met. I used escort cards that had people's names and their table name. I don't think anyone was confused, and I think a number in addition to the name would have added confusion (and not looked pretty lol)

I bought these premade and they were cheap and nothing I would keep as a momento of the wedding, but they did the trick. There is a vendor on Etsy that makes really nice streetsigns for $10-15 each - it just didn't end up being in our budget and I didn't see myself DIY-ing. I also looked at Zazzle, but at the end of the day that wasn't practical either (b/c of minimums for each "streetsign").

@Heather: I love Eggplant! What are your colors?

@Juliette: Where did you find those stands? I found a lady on Etsy who will make them on tough paper for like $2.50 a piece. Which isn't too shabby.

@Soon-to-be-Mrs. K: I definitely don't want to do both, but a road map would be super cute. I'm going to research how we can pull that off as well!

This really is a great idea, and the escort card stands that Juliette posted are also amazing!

I am hoping to get eggplant dresses so we will see, then go from there. But it will be purple (whatever color i can get my dresses), black, white and a pop of orange in the floral arrangements

The escort card/placecard holders? I bought them off ebay because I was incredibly lucky that someone was selling them who had bought too many - so she was selling them super cheap with free shipping. Until then, this was the cheapest I'd found them - http://www.ellasweddingfavors.com/streetlight-place-card-holder-favor.html

The Etsy deal sounds great! You also will probably want to make sure they're double sided depending on how your venue is set up.
