Stomach pooch! Mermaid gown

I just bought my wedding dress off the rack on sale and I could not be happier with it! It fits me perfectly. The only problem is my stomach is really pronounced and emphasized in this cut. Someone asked me if I was pregnant! I don't know what to do! Any shape wear recommendations would be greatly...

I just bought my wedding dress off the rack on sale and I could not be happier with it! It fits me perfectly. The only problem is my stomach is really pronounced and emphasized in this cut. Someone asked me if I was pregnant! I don't know what to do! Any shape wear recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I like how the rest of my body fits in the dress but I need help in flattening my tummy. It is a Pronovias mermaid style gown for reference (style name called the Mildred). I am attaching photos so you can see what I'm talking about. Thanks for all your help!

That pooch is actually just the shape of your vaginal area, not to get too personal. Different angle, so you notice it. I think it's also the light, but if you are able to let it out at all in the back seam, I might consider it, just because the material will sit flatter that way.

But yeah, that's just hitting your vagina, because you know, woman's body shapes 'n shit.

Seriously, go slap whoever said that to you! You look amazing! It's a beautiful dress and fits you perfectly. I think people are confusing the natural curve of the trunk of your body ending. Spanx will add a layer so that your dress doesn't sink in so far, but by no means do you need it to suck in your belly.

    @annakay511

I think we do have the same consultant. Little tiny Iranian woman who told me she loved me and I had to buy that dress. And then I did!

If it really bothers you try going a few weeks avoiding all foods that cause bloating such as gluten, dairy, and legumes. Also drink a ton of water! Someone as tiny as you I don't really know what spanx would do...there is really nothing to suck in...

Haha yes!! BTW, I think you look awesome!!! That is definitely your dress. I agree with @MM about seeing if it can be let out just a bit around your hips to make it less tight around your legs. I think that will help significantly. But a little bit of pooch is just the way our bodies are!

I think you look great! My dress did the same thing when I tried on the sample because it was slightly too tight in the middle, so it was pulling a little too much and laying that way. My consultant reassured me that when it's let out a little it'll lay flatter. Maybe they can let it out in the hips just a tad to let the fabric hang flatter?

I got a mermaid as well, and I'm worried about this too Smiley sad Like it makes me second guess my choice... But you don't even look like you need any help!? You don't have a pooch at all! I'm gonna be going with spanx, but hopefully I can lose some of my pooch so I'm not as self conscious.

I think women have this unrealistic idea of being completely flat in the lower abdomen. It's just not the way the human body is shaped.

You don't have a pooch - you're shaped the way a person is supposed to be shaped! Anyone who appears to not have any kind of curve there is either tilting their pelvis out or the picture is photoshopped.

OMG! You look amazing in your dress. As far as pooch goes...I don't see it.

I have a stomach on me and I can't seem to shake it...the dress I chose however is a corset back and.....just the way it fits, you can barely tell I have a stomach...to me I have large arms and a double chin that I need to work on haha. So I'm trying to add running and 10min of abs every other day into my schedule to try and slim down (I can't work my upper body due to doctors orders ): ).

For you tho (In my opinion you don't have a pooch but if your self conscious about it)....I'm not sure how spanx will work as I've never wore them myself...but a lot of OP are suggesting it, so I give that a go and see how that works for you.

Ok - being completely direct, you don't need shape wear, you don't need to 'suck in' and you need to stop listening to the negative Nelly's who are dishing out such negativity. You are a woman and women ARE shaped with a little softness through the tummy (for child bearing ya know!). You are worried about smithing no one will notice. And if you ever actually have a tummy, you will be thankful you were comfortable in your own skin when rocking a killer figure

Also, after alterations it won't be an issue. They will adjust the fabric and it will hang better.

PSA, gluten only causes bloating if you have celiac disease or an intolerance. Trying to eliminate that might also cause you to inadvertently lower your fiber intake...and that will seriously bring on the bloat.

You have a perfect figure. Slim women often do not do well with mermaid styles! Its unflattering to have a dress tight across the pubic area which is what emphasizes the lower tummy. The mermaid style seems to work best for big-bottomed hippy women who have had liposuction to flatten their tummy. The tightness shows off the curves of big women who may look better in mermaid styles (tummy and all) than in baggy garments. I am small too. (People often say my figure is perfect too). I only have 34 inch hips and wear 2s and extra small, but the mermaid styles tend to look awful on me, because it creates a hollow where it should not, instead of a flat silhouette across the tummy. What to do? Options: 1. Buy a different dress that drops straight from the hips rather than indenting creating the pubic hollow making the tummy look funny. 2. Buy a bigger size and take-in the upper part of the dress? 3. Get a tiny bit of liposuction in the lower tummy, which has risk and cost and redistributes the fat to the next place you tend to gain weight, like arms or upper belly or things, etc. 4. Try-on every spanx type girdle to see if you can find something to flatten that area. However, most girdles and slimming garments flatten the upper belly NOT the lower belly that curves into the pubic area. I shopped and shopped, bought about 20 or so slimming garments and was never able find a girdle to flatten out the tummy-to-pubic area to be able to wear mermaid dresses. ( If you find one, let us know!) Meanwhile, I too cannot wear mermaid dresses even as a thin woman! They are unflattering on us. We look better in dresses that fall straight from the hip. 5. Wear the dress anyway. You are beautiful as you are.
