Stomach pooch! Mermaid gown

Becca, on November 20, 2015 at 3:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 37

I just bought my wedding dress off the rack on sale and I could not be happier with it! It fits me perfectly. The only problem is my stomach is really pronounced and emphasized in this cut. Someone asked me if I was pregnant! I don't know what to do! Any shape wear recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I like how the rest of my body fits in the dress but I need help in flattening my tummy. It is a Pronovias mermaid style gown for reference (style name called the Mildred). I am attaching photos so you can see what I'm talking about. Thanks for all your help!

I think you look great! But if you're self-conscious about it, how about spanx?

I swear by Spanx, but make sure you get actual Spanx and not a knock off it is a completely different quality.

I don't think you need anything. At most just find something simple like Spanx or whatever. No reason for anything crazy. You look great!!!

If you're having any alterations at all done, that might help with perceived issues too. The tiniest of alterations can smooth things out drastically!

You look amazing! That said, you can ask your bridal consultant who helped you choose that dress for recommendations on shapewear. I don't know how much boning is built into the bodice already, but you could potentially wear a long-line corset, or, as Lara suggested, Spanx.

I do not see a stomach pooch at all. And to the person who asked if you were pregnant - I'll bite my tongue.

Did you take photos from different angles and in other lighting other than the kind that is above your head adding shadows?

If you don't like the fit in that area - I'm sure it can be altered to fit a way that you do like. It is amazing what a little stitch added or removed can really change the hang of a garment. Or you can go the shapewear route and see if you can get a girdle type panty, spanxs or waist cincher (I called them sausage casings).

Buy some spanx, try them on before the wedding for a day to make sure it is comfortable enough (won't feel amazing lol but just to make sure its not so annoying) and then have them so you can decide day of!

Dude, if I had a tummy like that, I'd be thrilled! Smiley smile The dress looks amazing on you and if you're really self-conscious, go for spanx.

Ok FRICK. I would like to personally slap whoever asked if you were pregnant.

Girlfriend, you have a gorgeous figure and a tiny waist, and you are so slim and elegant-looking. There is no pooch. As Rebecca said, that is how bodies are shaped, period--and yours is like seriously #goals.

If you're worried, do try a corset bra or Spanx. But girl, you look amazing.

ETA - and let me tell you, the women on these boards do not sugarcoat. We would tell you if the dress were unflattering or made you look pregnant, promise.

You look amazing! I love that dress on you. I would add a spanx to just make sure everything is smoothed out, but I don't see any issues with how it looks. Whoever said you looked pregnant needs to be smacked.... not nice.

Are you standing directly under the light? It looks like the light might be hitting the (very very slight) curve of your belly (that all humans have) and creating a shadow. IMO the dress looks stunning on you, but I think I understand what you're seeing--and it looks like it's just weird lighting. I truly wouldn't worry.

ETA I really had to stare at these pics for a long time before having any idea wtf you were talking about Smiley smile

You are hot! With a lot of women, what is perceived as a stomach pooch has more to do with the curve of your spine and tilt of your hips than your belly. You don't look like you have any weight to lose, but maybe for 2-3 weeks before your wedding just avoid salt and starchy foods to minimize bloat if you are worried about it? However, I think the way the dress fits you is perfect for your figure.

I think the gown looks great! You could always try some kind of Spanx just like the other ladies recommended. I would purchase some and try on the gown with it and compare photos to see how you feel and look with it on/off.

Oh my sweet Jesus. You don't have a pooch. And whoever is saying that is delusional. You look fantastic. Like the other girls said, spanx or a corset bra type thing. I wouldn't regret that dress. It looks great on you
