Stock the Bar party

Tina, on January 29, 2017 at 3:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 42

I'm seeing a lot of ppl on my fb having stock the bar parties. If you are thinking about doing one, please don't. Asking people for anything (money, alcohol) for your wedding is TACKY. That is all.

I think it's a cute theme for a shower, but not to buy alcohol for a wedding. Ewwww..

A stock the bar party is in lieu of gifts from a registry. How is that more tacky than asking for a blender or sheets? If you are trying to stock the bar for the wedding then yuck! Typically it's just to stock the bar in your home.

@OGA I'm assuming OP means the kind some people have where people bring alcohol to stock the bar for the reception.

You know what else is tacky?

My girls were talking about themes for my shower and one of the ideas was a stock the wine party where everyone brought a bottle of wine. I thought it was a cute idea, but they ultimately decided on a different theme and I'm actually crazy excited about it. I can't wait!

Usually a housewarming is a stock the bar party. When FH and I had ours that's how it ended up. I don't know anyone who intentionally has had one of these, but in lieu of a shower, I'm all for it.

I don't think a stock the bar party is tacky at all… A few of our friends have had them and they're actually a lot of fun and a great way to welcome a couple to their new home…

@nicole- what's the new theme you're so excited about?!?

OP-was the intention to stock the bar at the wedding? I've heard of stock the bar parties as shower themes as pp have said, but never to stock the wedding bar! That's absurd!

Everyone I've seen on fb is using it for their wedding. Like they put something on the card like "bring your favorite drink to help us stock the bar for the wedding" or something similar to that. Not even kidding.

Not sure why everyone is saying I have an avatar. I have a picture from my engagements as my pic and I see it on my phone just fine.

Tina, the profile picture you set up on your phone only works on the app on your phone. The rest of us can't see it and are seeing this when you post. Would you like some help setting up an avatar (profile picture)?

@judi a stock the coffee bar party sounds amazing. Even better, let's combine the two... Bailey's and kaluha all the way!

Our engagement party might become a stock the bar party. My fiance and I cannot afford to pay for everyone's drinks so we will ask our guests to either bring a drink they want to have at the wedding or put $$ into the pot and tell us what they like. This is depending on the venue we book since one comes with a cash bar option and the other venue is completely BYOB.

@rebecca I wouldn't ask people to put $$$ into a pot for alcohol for your wedding. If you can't afford the alcohol cut your guest list and at least provide wine and beer. Don't do a cash bar either.
