Stir Fry for a wedding?

Jazmin, on February 20, 2019 at 10:21 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17

So this might be a little out there, but I just learned that my favorite restaurant, like ever, does wedding catering. It's like a Mongolian build your own stir fry type of place. According to them we, as a couple, pick a few recipes that we think are good and they cook it in bulk form and serve it buffet style at the wedding. They also said they could recreate my bowl that I get every time I go in bulk form. The best part is it all totals to be around $5 per person!

Using them as a caterer would also be a little sentimental because every year, for the past 7 years, FH and I have eaten there on our anniversary - we just love it so much!

I guess my question is does this sound like something that would be okay for a wedding? Is it too tacky? I know the food would taste good, and we could choose stir fry options that aren't too out there for our pickier guests, for example they have a chicken alfredo recipe that's really good.

FH also suggested that since we would save money using them as a caterer we could bring in a late night pizza bar for those who might not have liked the stir fry very much.

Um, can I be invited to your wedding? Because that sounds delicious. And I think I would be totally, 107 percent on board if you somehow got word around that this restaurant plays such an important part in your love story.

As long as you have some other options for the pickier eaters - stir fry is kind of a hit or miss food - then I think you'd be good.

I think you should totally go for it! Sounds like this food option would work out perfectly for y'all's budget and truly represent y'all's couple style.

I think it’s a great idea. Would you be able to add a salad and some finger foods for those who don’t eat stir fry? I would love the food but I know there are picky eaters

Lol, I could probably figure some way to let people know about how it ties into our relationship Smiley smile And for sure, my biggest concern would be those picky eaters.

That's a good idea! I know they have a salad bar at the restaurant, I'll have to remember to ask about having that included. I'll have to brainstorm on finger foods though, lol.

This might not work out, but could you some how make a menu? It wouldn't have to be at all the place settings, but you could have one at the beginning of the buffet line. I know that I like stir fry, but there are certain foods that I can't or don't want to eat, so I'd like to know what's in the stir fry. And at the top, you can be like, "Food, provided by the couple's favorite anniversary dinner restaurant" and then whatever the food options are. It might even cut down on time spent in the buffet line.

Yes! I was planning on creating a menu with my cricut, depending on how many options we chose I thought it'd be fun to make like a "Bride's choice" option and a "Groom's choice", and whatever other recipes we had. I also thought it would be very important for all the ingredients to be listed, for allergy and preference reasons. My first thought was having it at the buffet line, but I could probably have it at the tables instead, and then include the little tidbit about our anniversary.

Lol! See if they have any side dishes. I was just trying to think of something else you could have for picky eaters. Are you having a cocktail hour? If so could you put out more of that food?

Sounds yummy! I'd definitely provide other options like salad, appetizers, etc. that way guests don't only have the stir fry option. I also love the pizza idea! I'd for sure do a few options of stir fry to try to please everyone, and maybe on a bigger menu or a sign by the buffet you can explain the importance of the meal to you?

The only sides I know of them having would be different rices (white, brown, and fried), and various types of tortillas and wraps, which I would plan on having included in the meal. I do plan on having a cocktail hour, I just haven't even thought about the food for that yet, lol. I'll have to ask if they have any ideas for extra sides as well.

I wouldn't expect this kind of food at a wedding unless it was a pretty casual wedding. I prefer not to eat Mongolian food (or any messy noodle food) in a nice dress.

Ummm yeeeeaaahhh! I did similar for my first wedding and it went over well. Just be sure your dishes are pretty main stream. We did an amazing loaded fried rice we loved but folks didn’t know what it was and didn’t touch it lol.

Neat! I wasn't expecting someone to give me first hand advice, thank you! It's a bummer that people aren't so adventurous with food, because I'm sure your fried rice was delicious! We'll definitely be mindful of that while creating recipes
