Steel Blue wedding

Alma, on October 17, 2018 at 5:50 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 16

Ok so my wedding color will be Steel Blue but although it is a pretty color, I am now kicking myself for choosing such a complicated color to find. Bridesmaids are wearing a Davids Bridal steel blue dress and groomsmen are wearing a Navy suit with steel blue ties which were difficult to find. I purchased the ties from etsy but I haven't received them so idk if they will match the bridesmaids dresses.

My biggest concern is the centerpiece, table runner, and linens. I cannot find anything that will go great with my wedding colors and I desperately need ideas because my wedding is on November 17 and I will DIY my wedding décor. I've tried pinterest but there isn't enough inspo on there for steel blue weddings

Can you guys please show me pictures of your steel blue wedding or any inspiration you can find. I will really appreciate it!!!

Steel blue is a great color that is easily complimented by other blues and grays. You don’t need your bridesmaids to match the table cloths. I had my girls in dusty blue dresses. For our tables, we went with a nice light gray tablecloth, and all the accents were blues— the napkins were a similar shade to the dusty blue dresses, the centerpieces were a seaglass blue. For the men’s ties, I went a shade darker for the groom and a shade lighter for the groomsmen. It’s way easier to go for complimentary colors than exact matches!

Hi Alma! Your steel blue wedding sounds lovely! I agree with McSkipper, here. Through other gray, steel blue, slate, and silver tones you can definitely compliment and enhance your steel-blue color choice! Such a pretty color palette, there's no need to overthink everything matching perfectly. Smiley heart

I had dusty blue as a accent color. I mainly used it in the ribbon in my bouquet, napkins, and the table cloth for the cake table. The dinner table clothes were ivory, my cake was white with flowers that matched my centerpieces. My flowers were various shades of red and pink. My husband wore a neutral color but the ribbon in his boutonnière was also dusty blue.

I think if you keep the steel blue to smaller items you don't need to worry about things matching exactly.

Ivory linens would look great and you could always do a metallic like silver or rose gold

Place cards/menus could be on steel blue paper or steel blue ink, steel blue ribbon on the cake or fondant/butter cream touches in that color, glasses painted with steel blue, flowers in different shades of blue. Good luck!

You can pick seasonal accent colors. For November you can focus on icy blues to compliment and reds look great also. Have you thought of silver accent? Since you are borderline fall/winter wedding. I think pale pinks/mauves/creams will compliment a bouquet/center pieces as well if you have some darker accents (burgandy/bordeaux, or dark blues) in there!

I agree! I think I am going to go with Ivory table cloths and accent with blue and white flowers in gold vases since FH wants to incorporate gold

Yes I think we're going that route. FH wants to incorporate gold so we will have ivory table cloths with spray painted gold vases and blue and ivory flowers.

Thank you so much for these ideas! I noticed that the mason jar has pink roses which will also be a nice touch. Too much blue can be overwhelming so a few pops of pink will be best. Thank you!

I was just in a wedding this past weekend and we wore steel blue dresses. The bride chose sunflowers/yellow as an accent. It came out really nicely. I was trying to see if I had a pic of the bouquet with the dress but I can't seem to find a single one 😂😂

I am buying cheesecloth and dyeing it to match. I am using ivory table clothes with copper accents.

Sorry for delayed response, my app stopped working! My favorite flowers are Gerber daisies, I. Particular red ones, so I highlighted those, and then had a variety of other white flowers and greenery (my bouquet was more red than white, and my girls’ were more white than red). Did something similar on the tables. I don’t have any pics handy of the final centerpieces but this is them in their staging area Steel Blue wedding 6

I had similar thoughts recently about Tiffany Blue. It's hard to match exactly so I decided to use greys and white as the primary colors and TIffany Blue to accent. I think greys will look beautiful with Steel Blue, too!
