Starting to regret buying strapless

Kathryn, on April 30, 2014 at 7:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

This may be more of a fear/vent..

So I loved my dress when I bought it in December. In the last few weeks, I have been reading comments made by people regarding how strapless dresses have a tendency to make brides look horrible (arm pit fat, back fat, etc) and how guests are starting to hate the look. I know I'm guilty of doing the same. When people go to weddings everyone is excited about the dress, but pass the worst judgement on it and the bride. I went to a wedding were the bride wore a mermaid dress, but it looked horrible. The dress was gorgeous, but it just didn't fit her shape. I am extremely afraid that my dress will do the same to me. I have an A-line strapless dress in white and I really want it to be beautiful on me, but I might just be blinded by the fact that its a wedding dress and not see the facts about it. I honestly have body issues right now and don't want to look like a whale coming down the isle. I'm starting to lose weight but I'm afraid my view will be skewed..

    Do you have a picture?

I am a size 24 - and I rocked my dress. Don't worry about being a whale as long as you got a dress that's right for your shape.

I think you will look great. I loved my dress and I feel like it sucked me in so much! I felt 10 lbs thinner and my pics look so good! Yeah my arms aren't toned but I think we look amazing in the pics I have seen. Smiley smile

I just saw the pic of your dress. Very pretty! You will rock it for sure! Getting my hair and makeup done, nails and a tan made me feel like a princess for the day. Smiley smile

Thanks ladies. I know its a pretty dress, I was just afraid that I was blinded by the dress and not what I looked like... I'm trying not to be emotional, its just hard looking at pictures and doing the girl thing like "does it make me look fat??" I appreciate it... I have to get over myself haha

Eh. I was this size in college, lost 120 pounds 14 years ago and was a size 14-16 for 9 years. I remember sometimes liking my body, sometimes hating it. 5 years ago, a slew of tragedies and bad luck occurred (in order: stressful relationship -since over - new relationship, miscarriage, mom died, boyfriend/now husband lost his job, second miscarriage…) and I gained all the weight back. I look at pictures of myself when I was a size 14-16 and cannot believe I hated how I looked. I looked amazing.

When I get back to a size 16, I have to remember that.

You don't look like a whale at all, you'll rock that dress! I know what you mean, I tried on a lot of strapless dresses and felt like a whale in almost all of them. My dress is not strapless and it was the first one I felt beautiful in.

Stop listening to what people have to say about strapless dresses. You look awesome! I don't see anything at all related to the "trouble spots" you mentioned. :-)

I think you look fine. I don't like strapless dresses myself. That's why I didn't wear one. If you like it, the wear it. I really think that having the right dress for yor shape is great but it is just important to feel good in it. If you feel great then people see that.

There will always be something if you're looking for it hard enough, but you have to let it go! The best weddings are genuine, "real life", not photoshopped shoots. I mean, photographers often point out that you could be a statue in all of your pictures, or you could go in for the hug that will invariably cause your arms squish a bit in your strapless dress. You're not a mannequin, so your skin will move, and sometimes it won't look 100% the way you want. That's the price of not being plastic. I'm pretty sure your FH prefers you the way you are, though. I think you look great in your dress. If you're super worried, you could get a shrug. Don't be self-conscious, though -- just have fun with your friends and family.

You look amazing in the dress!!!!

I was literally saying the something at my last dress fitting to my mom who told me I was crazy. I then went home and obsessed over the pictures until I finally realized I doubt anyone else will be zooming in on my pictures like i was, i also decided to start doing some arm exercises just in case though lol

You look great! With hair and makeup (and maybe a tan?) you will look more toned too! You could always add cap sleeves of pretty straps too!

You look great! The only time they don't look good is when they are to tight on the bride.

If you don't like your arms strapless is actually the best way to go. Cap sleeves and straps will draw more attention to your arms. That's what I was told at least and I do agree. I think you look great. Confidence will make you lovelySmiley smile
