Spray Tan vs. Tanning Bed

Mrs. Captain America, on October 2, 2013 at 3:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

My wedding is in June and I am naturally a pale person, but I have tried a tanning bed before so that I wouldn't burn so easily and starting out small it did wonders. I have tried a spray tan once before too but that turned out completely terrible. It was a stand up machine spray tan and I came out blotchy and orange.

I'd love to be just a couple shades darker so that I do not blend in with my dress, but what would you recommend? Is there a better way to spray tan or should I go to a tanning bed again?

I am adamantly against tanning in general (sunlight or beds) because, ya know, skin cancer.

i've found that you get what you pay for with spray tans. if you have someone spray on you, it will look better than the machine. I actually think the machine is fine for me, but i have learned how to deal with drips, etc.

I've had bad experiences with spray tans... as they do not last long at all !! mine didn't even last 24hrs.

I am very very pale as well.... and I have been using the tanning bed - now because your skin is not used to the sun exposure, you may burn slightly at the beginning (not a burn per se, but more of a redness) Make sure to follow the guidelines on the tanning bed (should be a sticker on the lid of the machine) and do not go over the maximum amount of time for your skin tone.

I believe they recommend (for fair skin) to start at 3 min, and increase by 1 min every three tanning sessions - Once you reach the tan you desired, you will only have to go once a week to maintain your 'glow'

I am currently tanning at 7 minutes - which is perfect for me..as I don't want to look any darker, just have a nice 'healthy glow'.

    GOOD LUCK!!! and safe tanning.

There is a tanning salon near me that offers uv free beds! See if you can find that

I went to the tanning bed. I think it gives a more natural color on me. Also, we went to Cancun for our honeymoon so I needed a base tan or else I would have gotten fried.

Don't do tanning beds. Cancer sucks.

With spray tans, you really do get what you pay for. Don't use the stand-up machines because you will likely turn orange (I speak from experience). Go to an airbrush tanner and ask for the lightest shade they have -- they'll even contour your body when they're spraying you. I've had several airbrush tans and you can't even compare the two.

    Also: exfoliate like crazy beforehand.

I did spray but made sure to try it out before the wedding. I would never do a machine spray though...I don't trust them and the place I went to did a great job and the color lasted about a week with proper moisturization...they say the best is to only shower once between the spray and the wedding

I just use the tanning beds. I have never tried the spray tans because they scare me, selftanning lotions are just too much work. You have to keep up with it or else you'll start getting spots. The airbrush would be a safe choice but I think i'd feel awkard getting one of those.

My uncle died when I was 15 from melanoma skin cancer at the young age of 42. He fought it for 7 years before he died . That means he was only 35 when he got it.

So no tanning beds for me. Not worth it.

When you have someone actually airbrush spray tan you I hear they turn out better than the machines (my cousin had one done right before my wedding and it looked really good). I'm pretty pale and was worried about the same thing, but then I thought about how never in my life am I tan so I'd rather look like me...even if I am super pale.

The tanning booths send out two kinds of ultraviolet light rays – UVA and UVB. Your skin absorbs both types, but in alternate ways. UVA rays have longer wavelengths that are able to reach the deepest layers of the skin. UVB ray’s wavelengths are shorter and only penetrate the uppermost layers of skin which means it really can give you this kind of hydrated and glowy appearance while Spray tanning is one of the most efficient ways to get the bronzed glow you want in an instant but it does not long last so i hope this can made up your mind Smiley smile
