SPINOFF- A song you love but can't use?

Natalie, on April 30, 2015 at 4:45 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

So, a song just came on the radio that I LOVE. I hadn't heard it in a while and I'd forgotten how much I liked it and how romantic I think the lyrics are. However, it reminds me of my ex because it was *our song* It is absolutely going to be on our do not play list at my wedding, BUT I think its a beautiful song for another couple looking for one.

So I wanted to ask everyone...is there a romantic song that you LOVE but can't use as a first dance song for whatever reason and that you might suggest to another couple to use?

The one for me is Crush by Dave Matthews Band.

    Err.. kind of.

I have a song that's not apparently "approrpiate" enough to play as a first dance, despite a sugary-sweet folk chorus, because there is definitely a line about sniffing panties (it's hilarious).

We were flat out told no by his family. Which is a shame, as my family thinks it's phenomenal. We're going to do a "second first dance" at our afterparty to it.

I am weird about lyrics. There were 2 for me. One was My Eyes by Blake Shelton - "my eyes are the only thing I don't wanna take off of you" - probably not very appropriate to dance to in front of my grandmother. And the other, was Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran - "will your mouth still remember the taste of my love" - it's just kind of icky to me.

But like I said, I am weird. No other songs or reasons other than my odd comprehension of the lyrics lol.

I love "Spend My Life With You" by Eric Benet feat. Tamia - Can't use it because my best friend used it for her first dance

You and I--it's an old, slow, sweet song, but didn't do much for DH apparently.

@Alyshadanielle, I know the feeling...we spent so long trying to figure out our playlist, because once we started looking at lyrics we realized how many weren't appropriate for a family-oriented reception!

I LOVE "Lady In Red" by Chris DeBurgh from the 80's but it won't work for obvious reasons.

Don't Wana Miss a Thing- Same reason as you. My friends think it's stupid that I "let" the memories come back when I hear that song, but it's not like I can remove said memory. Ugh

I love Crush! And another of their songs, "Dream Girl." Definitely want to include some of their songs in the playlist.

For me, it was Wrecking Ball by Eric Church. Love that song, love the way it sounds, but it is all about sex and about nothing but sex. FHs family's English isn't good enough to catch on, but on principle, not doing it.

Right now, I'm really in love with Ed Sheeran's "Photograph." Trying to convince FH, but he just don't feel connected to the song in the way that I do.

    "What's Your Fantasy" by Ludacris.

Kidding. I love "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain, but it was also mine and my ex's "song."

"Happy Ever After In Your Eyes" by Ben Harper -- I fell in love with it when I saw him sing it in concert years ago, and knew that it HAD to be my first dance song. The concert was so good that I got tickets to the next show, and brought my really good friend...who also fell in love with the song...and used it as her first dance when she got married before me!

I'm still kind of sad about that...it's the one song that pops into my head anytime I try to decide on a first dance song Smiley sad

ETA: my typing is a mess
