Address the invitiation only to those who are invited. On the RSVP card, include a line that says "we have reserved __ seats in your honor" or "__ of __ attending."

Do your invites have the two envelopes? Typically you write the specific people invited on the inner envelope.

Use online RSVP. That way the code will not allow people to “write in” extra people and they will get the hint very strongly when they only see those three names that are clickable. This is what I’m doing so people know that their kids are staying home.

We addressed the invitations to only those we wanted to invite and specified on our website that we asked only those invited attend. Only one person didn't seem to understand this and tried to invite others until we spoke to her. Another chose not to attend because of it, but we had a wonderful time with those that were there.

Address the invite to exactly who is invited, so "Sam, Alex, and Austin Smith". Then on the RSVP put we have reserved ___ seats for your party, and fill out the # before sending with "3".

Omg! Thanks for posting! I have the same issue. I saw someone wrote 27 names on one invite.
