Spaghetti Buffet for the Wedding?

Mrs. Captain America, on September 2, 2013 at 5:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

Hey there! We are doing our own food for the reception and have been bouncing ideas back and forth for weeks and the other day my fiance mentioned a spaghetti or pasta buffet. We were thinking of having 2 types of noodles, a couple of different sauces, and some choices of meatballs/sausage, cheese, etc.

Has anyone done this before, or have any tips on how this could work? Thanks!

We're doing our own food, also! (or for the moment) i've thought of lasagna, because it makes a lot. but i love this idea too!! (i might just steal it!) Smiley winking i mean who doesn't love spaghetti?! i think it's a great idea! Smiley smile

Haha exactly! Smiley smile We figure since spaghetti is always good, plus if people can choose their own toppings that it just might work out. We have a lot of family members that want to help make food/treats so we're thinking maybe if it works they could make the noodles and heat them up at the venue. Hopefully we could do that and still keep the good taste!

While I love Italian, and knownof many people who choose Italian/Pasta as their meal, I have this weird thing about not liking red food and drinks at a wedding.

I realize most adults can eat without making a mess but, I don't trust anyone!

I don't see why it wouldn't work erin! i would suggest having a veggie trays and fruit trays or something like that as "alternatives", because some people might not want something so heavy. that's what i would suggest.

Thank you! Yeah the messy part is something to think about for sure, but yeah I like the idea of veggie/fruit trays to add as well. Smiley smile

Nice idea, Erin. Definitely talk to the venue about the best way to keep the noodles hot and tasty. Self catering is a great idea but you should do a trial run to work out the kinks of your plan. You do not want the noodles to get to room temperature and start sticking together!

Also, if you have any gluten free guests, throw in a small amount of gluten free pasta (my fav is quinoa pasta but corn and rice pastas are good too).

Don't forget if you have any gluten free guests! They have a ton of gluten free pastas nowadays though.

If you do spaghetti make sure to toss them with olive oil so they don't mush up together and cook the noodles al dente! But very nice idea! Maybe do a red sauce and cream sauce?

I guess it would be ok, IJS I wouldn't b/c I can be a messy eater and would not want to get sauce on my dress. But like the other ladies stated use short pasta.

Thanks guys! Yeah I think the shorter pasta sounds like a good idea, as well as having some gluten free pastas.

I went to a wedding in CT a few weeks ago and they offered 4 different types of pasta..YUM. My favorite was the vodka sauce with spaghetti. I would vote yes, it was a big hit!

I think pasta is great for weddings. I went to one recently and they had macaroni and cheese and vegetarian raviolis. So good.

That sounds great! I would suggest offering a salad as well though. Smiley smile

A thought...Instead of plates you could do martini glasses or some other interesting serving option. So people can eat out of those instead of off plates...

Wait, come to think of it, that isn't my "ingenous" idea...

I was at a company kickoff and they have a mashed potato bar and a pasta bar - basically the same/similar concept.

Everything was served in oversized martini glasses.

The pasta went in the bottom and you could add your own toppings same with the mashed potatos.

I did this! We cooked the pasta the night before. cook until its slightly undercooked from al dente then rinse in cold water to cool the noodles and toss to coat in olive oil and put in a sealed container. Everyone raved about the food. Message me if you want more tips!
