Southern CA reception venue for under $5000??

BrideToBe, on May 18, 2015 at 4:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

We are doing a budget wedding and are looking for a wedding reception venue for under $5000. (Our ceremony is going to be at a park) I would prefer BYO alcohol and food as we are thinking food trucks rather than a traditional dinner. We are thinking Friday as I really want an evening ceremony and reception. This is a very DIY wedding so I'm hoping to supply most of the alcohol and just pay a bartender to serve. It can't be at a park as many don't allow loud music, alcohol, or being there past 10PM or I would totally use a park. Also, needs to be for around 125 guests!

Location: Anywhere from Santa Barbra to San Diego area CA

I was going to have mine here, but had my heart set on the date, which was taken. They have some other fees that aren't on the website, though. I'm sorry, I can't find any of the emails I had from them that showed the actual price estimate. Under $5000 is tough for this area, I tried for that too. I think this place was pretty affordable though, especially if you're doing mostly DIY.

I've only found Community Centers in North Orange County to be under this price and allow you to bring in caterers. Also, where is your ceremony located? You said anywhere from Santa Barbara to San Diego is several hours of travel time and on a Friday?? eeek!

I really can't think of anywhere for less than 5K. Especially not in SB, LA, OC or SD. Maybe Valencia, Riverside, East County SD? Look inland or ask around to your friends and family see if any of them have a house/backyard you can use.

How late did you want it to end? For your budget I can't see finding a venue that ends later than 10, probably 9 at most.

In Santa Barbara there are only 3 venues that are open until midnight.

I'm having my wedding at the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara, which is beautiful and costs about $4,000 for the ceremony and reception site. But the curfew there is 10 pm.

We also looked at the Narrative Loft in Santa Barbara, which is very cute and has no curfew. I think the site fee was $2,600 - though we discovered that many of the rental companies charge more to deliver to there because they have to go up a set of stairs (no elevator).

You probably won't like this, but if you give it some thought, you'll realize it probably makes sense. Hosting a wedding for 125 guests is going to be expensive -- anywhere (but moreso in the northeast and San Diego locales). I'm a little confused as you say you'd like to host alcohol and food, but you'd prefer to have BYO alcohol and food (but then you mention food trucks). If you want an evening wedding, you have to accept the fact that a guest list of 125 properly hosted guests (in your area) is going to break your budget. Why not cut the guest list down to 50 of your nearest and dearest and rent a private room in a restaurant. That way, you'll have your beautiful, evening wedding without having to venture into the realm of BYO-whatever. Give it some thought.
