Sound system for small-intimate wedding

Jennifer, on February 12, 2018 at 5:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

Hi All,

Trying to figure out how to handle music for our wedding. We are having a small wedding, about 25 guests. The ceremony will be outdoors on the venue's property, followed by cocktail hour/dinner at the venue's restaurant. The venue offers a sound equipment rental for $250, that would be moved for each ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner. I thought for such a small group, it was totally unnecessary..

Our wedding coordinator noted we wouldn't really need a mic/speaker for the ceremony since it's such a small group, but our officiant is now asking about music when I walk up the aisle and I'm beginning to wonder. Could I get away with using my own smaller speakers I plug my laptop into when I'm at home? Would it seem tacky?

We aren't planning to have a dance floor or a DJ at dinner. I'd like to be able to play music (of choice. We could opt for whatever music the restaurant is playing) off my phone/ipad at dinner and our cocktail hour, and could use my own speakers. I just don't know about the quality, etc...

Or if it's worth purchasing my own better quality speaker.

Thanks,

Jenn

I would rent the speakers. I am not sure small speakers are enough, there might be a lot of competing noise even in a smaller group.

You could probably even buy a good amplifying speaker for less than $100. Definitely worth it IMO.
