I hate that people ask or demand they be invited to a wedding. When I was asked this question I simply changed the subject and then let them figure it out when they did not receive an invitation in the mail.

If they ask you, which is rude, just say you are restricted to a small guest list.

You don't. If asked (which is rude on their part....) "We are keeping our celebration very small and we had to make some difficult decisions, but we appreciate your good wishes!"

That's the problem. I keep getting asked. I even had someone ask when it was so they can buy a plane ticket for that weekend. But I wasn't planning on invited them. I felt so bad!

You don't unless you're asked. If you're asked you simply say, I'm sorry but we decided to keep our wedding guest list small.

Then say, "I'm sorry but we can't invite everyone we want to be there to celebrate with us."

I appreciate your excitement! Unfortunately, we were unable to invite everyone we would have liked to celebrate with us. Thank you for your well wishes!

Also, try to avoid talking about your wedding around people and make sure not to post stuff on social media. I don't think most people knew when we were getting married until it was over. The less people know the less they will ask.
