Sorry, No Children Allowed

The Bride, on June 6, 2019 at 4:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 123
When planning our special day my husband and I immediately knew we wanted to have a kids free wedding for several reasons. 1) On both sides of our family there are a lot of children and we didn't want the trouble of chosing. 2) Our venue charges about $50 per child and allowing children would have made us go over our budget. 3) Although kids can make for some beautiful wedding moments, they are also very unpredictable.

Will you allow children at your wedding? Why or why not?

My wedding will be mostly kid free. Of course, I would never ask family coming from very far away (Hawaii, Montana, Arizona, Pennsylvania) all the way to Charleston, SC to not bring their children. I’m sure there will be a few kids, but not a crazy amount.

I allowed kids for reception because there's overall not a lot and receptions are parties anyway but I said no kids for ceremony because kids can be disruptive and ceremonies are supposed to be quiet and I just wanted to be able to say my vows in peace without hearing a kid be impatient and cry or scream or whatever. But my solution to that was we have a nursery at church kids are in every Sunday filled with toys while their parents are in sermon so we hired the church nanny to look after all the kids during the ceremony.

Having kids at my wedding because there aren’t too many super small kids in my family. I have a two year old niece and a month old but that’s really it and seeing ass it’ll be over a year away it should go okay

We absolutely allowed children at ours. And honestly, many families chose not to bring them. We knew that by not allowing children it would basically eliminate half of our adult guests - the ones who have to travel, hire childcare, etc. Plus, all of our family weddings have children invited, and there has never been an issue. Kids are kids. They're wild, they're unpredictable, but it was a party - we were fine with that! Our ceremony was on a Friday afternoon, so many of the children didn't attend that portion. But some did. And they were wonderful. I suppose it really does depend on the personalities of the children you're considering inviting, but the 30ish children that attended our wedding were great! The ones that wanted to dance, danced away. The ones who didn't, had coloring books at their table setting. We were so happy we included the littles!

Nope. But fortunately, I’m mid 40s & hubby is mid 50s so our friends don’t have young kids where it’s an issue. We allowed 1 couple who traveled out of state to come to our local reception to bring their 9-year old because they certainly couldn’t leave him. And the me couple had a nursing infant, which is always allowed but because they live in the same city they were thrilled to leave baby with grandma but a “date night” with a lot of wine & dancing. 👍😁

Nope! Costs per head and our reception ends late- when kids tend to get fussy.

Nope no kids at my wedding. Kids are great and all but my wedding is in a historic mansion filled with hundred year old items. Also we have a 40 person limit (including bride and groom!) so it was pretty easy to tell people we couldn’t do it based off seating, budget and venue 🤷🏻‍♀️ No Shame!

We went to a family wedding reception (my cousin) before getting engaged. So. Many. Kids! All under 10 and running around like screaming banshees. When we got in the car to leave we looked at each other and I said "if we ever get married, NO KIDS." He agreed. Plus it's a good night for parents to let loose, have fun, and enjoy an open bar.

    I don't like kids. I don't want kids. I can't have kids.
But my friends have, like and enjoy their kids. So they are welcome. I want my friends there.

Fortunately, I was known to be quite the partier back in the day, so a few of my guests won't be bringing their children as I am known to have thrown a few ragers and I'm not one to make things kid friendly, so it's a take it or leave it situation.

Surprisingly our families were fine with not being allowed to bring children so it worked out perfectly for us.

Exactly! Our wedding was from 6:30 PM to midnight. Kids shouldn't be out that late anyway. 😉

I completely understand. It's like bring your kids but I can't promise that we won't get wild. 🤪
