Song Needed for Dance Between My Mom and Fiancé

Neena, on June 10, 2020 at 4:16 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
Hi all, this one is kind of a bummer.

My fiancé’s mom has refused to come to our wedding because she doesn’t like me (she claims other reasons but she’s been trying to get out of the wedding since day 1). To me it’s no big loss because she’s hateful and refused to help plan or pay for the wedding even after she promised she would.
My parents have paid for everything except a few small items that my fiancé’s father (they’re divorced) paid for. He will be attending the wedding thankfully, but he’s the only one of my fiancé’s family attending.
While my fiancé is thankful his dad will be attending, I know he’s bummed because he wanted to do a mother-son dance after my father-daughter dance.
I was thinking of asking my mom to dance with him instead because she loves him and knows how hard it has been dealing with his mom, but I have no idea what they could dance to.
Moral of the story is, I really need song suggestions!! Something that is “motherly” but not overly so because I don’t want it to be awkward considering my fiancé and my mom have only known each other for 2 years.
For reference, our first dance song is “Inevitable” by Anberlin and my father-daughter dance song is “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker (which is a surprise for my dad). We never had a song picked out for the mother-son dance because she’s been fighting coming to the wedding for over a year now.
Any suggestions are welcome!!!

That's definitely a bummer. Does he not have any other family besides his parents since his dad is the only one attending? I'm not sure of a song, but have you talk to your mom and fiance about this to make sure this is something they are comfortable doing? At my brother's wedding he danced with my mom then my sister and I (half of a song with me then the other half with her). My sister-in-law's dad didn't attend and she didn't want to do a spotlight dance with anyone else.

I can't tell from your post, but do you know if your future spouse wants to dance with your mom? Maybe he would prefer no dance at all. I would confirm that first, and then ask them both for input on the song.

I can relate, and I'm sorry you're all dealing with this...I agree you'll want to ask FH if he wants a dance at all, and make sure your mom is comfortable with it, too. If so, let them guide the song choice. I google searched song lists for ideas.

I'm sorry. He's not the only one whose mother refused to come, so I understand.

I agree with the PPs, though - clear this with both of them, and let them choose. Otherwise it could be very awkward.
