Song Ideas for a Goth/Punk/Geek Couple

Llamalicious, on March 27, 2016 at 3:27 AM Posted in Planning 2 23

My fiancee is punk and I am goth. We're both hardcore geeks. We're doing a cosplay/Halloween/very non-traditional wedding and will be Victorian Gothic Steampunk style. I am at a loss for music. I told my fiancee I want to feel like an punk rock Disney princess coming down the aisle and find a song that embraces my uniqueness. I want our other ceremony songs to capture who we are as people, not just generic love songs. For suggestions we hate pop music, but love metal, punk, industrial/experimental, and EDM. We actually like just about every genre of rock lol. Favorite artists are Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, Korn, Slipknot, Five Finger Death Punch, In This Moment, Halestorm, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Skrillex, and, Deadmau5, and tons of other underground artists that no one has ever heard of. We are thinking of doing Phantom of the Opera songs for the prelude and This is Halloween by Manson as our grand march. Any help is greatly welcome and appreciated. Smiley smile

I actually recognize some of those bands because FH likes them too!

I think Phantom of the Opera is a great idea. Smiley smile I'm sorry I don't really have anything beyond that lol.

"Once Upon a Dream" by Lana De Ray is both romantic and chilling. I feel like it would be perfect to walk down the aisle to in a goth themed wedding!

Also it adds to the punk Disney princess thing you're going for since it is in fact a remade Disney song!

I would keep in mind that not all your guests are going to want to listen to your favorite music all night (unless they are, lol)

I think Phantom is a brilliant idea.

I'm walking down the aisle to Sea of Voices by Porter Robinson. FH edited it so its shorter and has the vocals removed (well, what little there is) and its absolute perfection.

Just the right amount of EDM influence that its special to us, but also wont seem out of place to our family.

Hmm, I'd suggest looking into Voltaire, the Mountain Goats, They Might Be Giants, and the Magnetic Fields. Not *super* punk/goth-y but definitely prone to black humor and a darker sensibility.

Vitamin String Quartet does string versions of a lot of songs. They have done Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance, they have a Panic at the Disco Tribute album. I would look into them

For your first dance, processional and recessional you should use your favorite songs. For the reception be sure to use stuff guests can dance too and your grandma won't be cringing at.

As much as this is your day, the reception is a party for your guests.

I would look at offbeat bride for advice! I'm not saying that we aren't useful or that you're an offbeat bride, but I LOVE looking at that site for the unique weddings that they have captured. There may be some inspiration there as well

So- we are big fans of a lot of that same music- but I know about ZERO people in/attending our wedding will like it- I'm also not doing a DJ- but I hired a violinist and one of the deals is she'll learn a new piece of music- you can add on additional pieces for I think 20$ bucks is a joke considering the work that goes into it.

I asked her if she could learn Rob Zombie- and apparently she can!!! So- don't rule out instrumental versions of your favorite songs!

Wow I wasn't expecting responses! Thanks everyone! Fortunately we both like lots of genres, but I definitely want to the a punk princess walking down the aisle. xD I love all of the comments and I'm so happy I didn't see any hate, because I was totally expecting it.

For the ceremony, I'm doing the Vitamin Quartet music like PP suggested. I found them from hearing their version of Helena from My Chemical Romance and I can't get enough of it

Another vote for Vitamin String Quartet, they have an album called Goth Wedding. Nightwish has some softer songs that you might want to consider. Apocalyptica's older albums are just the four cellos, so I feel they would go well in a wedding.

I may be way off base here but do you like The Cure? "Just Like Heaven" was one of our top contenders for a first dance.

There is a cello tribute to The Cure album that a super sweet WW lady gave me for Christmas this year...some of their super popular songs played on cello!!! Gives it the kind of "wedding' instrumental feel while still playing to the Goth side. Smiley laugh

I am walking down the aisle to Music of the Night. We haven't officially decided, but I'm leaning toward Anything for You, by Ludo, for our first dance. A lot of hardcore rock songs also seem to have at least one really beautiful ballad you could use maybe?
