Something old, new, borrowed, blue and sixpence in her shoe

How many ladies are sticking to this tradition? My new is my dress, my old is a charm from my late grandmother's necklace. Still working on the borrowed, blue and sixpence

I did all of it. I actually wore my wedding shoes yesterday and the sixpence is still glued to the bottom.

Old: earrings my sister gave me when I was her MOH

    New: dress

Borrowed: I don't have anything yet.

Blue: I'm having embroidery done on the inside of the dress

I do have a six pence, I just have to find it.

My something old and borrowed is my mothers 40 year old pearl necklace she wore on her wedding day, I have so many new things it's crazy but I guess we can say my dress. My something blue is a pearl bracelet I had made with one blue beat to match my mothers pearl necklace! I had to Google a sixpence and I'm unsure how if I'm doing one. Is a penny common too? I'm seeing some penny's.

@ Nonna T That's not the point. The saying mentions a sixpence not a penny. Living in America has nothing to do with it. Put some sugar in your coffee. You need to sweeten up your language.

Nancy, you could use some to sweeten your disposition, you never have anything nice to say.

The poem in this country uses penny.

And it's "sixpence" since you're the boss of everything.

Glad that you acknowledge that I am the boss of everything. How kind of you.

Old were my earrings (my grandmother's), new was my headpiece, borrowed was my Norwegian solje pin from my mother, and blue was my engagement ring.

@EW, I'm planning to glue my penny from @Nonna to the bottom of my shoe.

My blue is my grandmother's blue topaz ring, old is the lace from her dress on my veil, new is my dress, and I guess my borrowed can be the cuff of my mom's wedding dress. I'm removing it to wrap my bouquet in, but I'm giving it back!

Again; it is a silver sixpence in your shoe, not a penny. There is no American version.

New will be my dress and hair piece, old will be something of my dad's. Probably a piece of his shirt stitched into my dress or used to bind my bouquet together. Haven't figured out blue yet. Also not sure about the something borrowed. I don't think I'll do the sixpence either. I hate things being in my shoes.

ETA: Since this sparked a thought process, my something old will be one of my dad's shirts but it will be fashioned into a light weight jacket. I think I'll have whoever does it attach lace trim as well to give it more of a feminine look as well.

I had never heard of the sixpence thing before WW so I won't be doing that, unless I am able to 'borrow' it too. Lol

But yes I will be doing the others.

Katherine, I glued my "lucky penny for her shoe" (the way I first heard the poem) onto the bottom of my shoe, too, on the arch! Of course, I knocked it off shortly before the ceremony, reglued it, and knocked it off again while dancing. Yay for pockets in my dress! Maybe something besides hot glue would have worked better...

Again is not what? There is NO American version of the poem. It is a silver sixpence not a penny. Get over it girl. Get a sixpence not a copper penny.

I'm only doing it because my mother had been saving two silver sixpence pieces for my sister and I for many years.
