Are you going to get your engagement and wedding band Soldered together and if so, are you doing it before or after the ceremony?

I'm definitely doing this. And after the ceremony, when we come back from the honeymoon. It's potentially damaging to your rings to have them rolling around your finger and rubbing against each other. I decided after my jeweler told me that. They said it can wear down your prongs that hold diamonds or rub the finish off your gold.

I have been married a very long time. My rings have never been soldered together. If your rings are solid gold it could stratch them I guess but the finish is gold if they are gold and so on unless they are plated. I have never had a lose stone ever and have had them checked a few times.

If you get them soldered together they will be tighter and fit different. Try a band on the same width you may or may not like it. I could not wear a band that thick.

With them apart they move different than if they are together. I also like the ability to take off my engagement ring if I am doing something it would catch on. Which has only been a handful of times in all these years.

I will be soldering mine, prior to the wedding so that I don't have to give them up afterwards! White Gold has other metals mixed to make it white, and is usually rhodium plated for shine. This does wear down/off over time and will take on a pale yellow gold look, and can be "dipped" to re-rhodium them. Yellow Gold jewelry does not have this issue, however, it is true that the rings will wear down over time, whether soldered or not, but will do so more quickly if not due to the rubbing back and forth on each other.

I did mine beforehand, so I'd be 'good to go' afterwards.

Mine will be soldered after the wedding. FH's grandfather is our jeweler so we're going to go over to his house after we get back from the mini-moon and he's going to solder them for me while we're there :o)

Definitely not. When platinum is scratched, the metal is simply displaced, not removed, so it will never "wear down." My wedding band doesn't hit the prongs anyway.

No. Like MJ said, sometimes it's nice to have just the band when you don't want your e-ring catching on things.

I work in some rough areas, alone. I do not feel comfortable wearing my engagement ring in those areas and will only wear the wedding band there. So no they won't be soldered

I had mine soldered together before our wedding. I wasn't really left with a choice of to solder or not because my wedding bands are actually a solitaire enhance, it would look strange if they spun and weren't lined up with my engagement ring. that being said, I love them being soldered together. makes it so much easier. I plan to get an anniversary band at some point for my right hand and then if i ever feel like just wearing a band, then switch it over to the left hand for the time being.

FH wanted me to consider not sodering the rings in case I wanted to wear the band alone, but I've had my engagement ring for 8 months now and have not run into a situation where I didn't want to wear it or it got in the way (I did take it off to go to the lake and muddin once, but I wouldn't wear a band there either). Personally, with my band being so thin I don't think it will affect the size I wear.

I feel like I would lose my engagement ring if I took it off sometimes to just wear the band. Where do you keep it? lol I've considered buying a plain gold band to wear in case I run into a situation where I wouldn't want to wear my rings...

This is definitely a case by case decision and it depends on a lot of factors!

I am definitely having my rings soldered together. It drives me crazy that the band is constantly turning around so the diamonds are on the underside and I am constantly having to rotate it. Plus, I have noticed that my e-ring has started to turn yellow on the underside a lot faster since I started wearing my band with it.

If I had a situation where I didn't want to wear my e-ring, I wouldn't wear the band either because it has just as many small diamonds in it. I have a back up tungsten band that I keep for situations when I might not want to mess up/risk losing my real rings.

Oh, and we are already married but doing our vow renewal in March, and I'll be getting them soldered together before that.

I’m going to solder mine together after the wedding and honeymoon. My engagement ring band is very thin and so is my wedding band so I feel like having them fused together makes the ring look more pronounced. If we go on vacation or I do something where I don’t want to wear my wedding set I’ll probably wear a previous promise ring FH gave me or go to the store and get a $10 “fake” Claire’s jewelry wedding set. I’ve seen the ones where they come as a joint engagement and wedding set and I’m fine with that.

My engagement ring came with a thin wedding band and it was M's mothers, so we plan to have those two soldered together because it looks more complete. However the wedding band we'll be using is my grandmothers, so I will not be soldering that together.

Lindsey I like the idea of having a "fake" set for certain occasions.

The set I got from my first husband I had soldered together because it bothered me when they turned in opposite directions, and since the band was a wrap it would look funny without the e-ring, this happened after the wedding. Now, my second marriage, again the wedding band is a wrap and I would never wear it alone, but it actually locks together with the e-ring without needing to be soldered together.

No because i like the idea of having 2 separate rings. And also because i'm sure theres going to be days where i won't want to where my ering because it sticks up so far. (another reason i'm insisting on a straight wedding band)

I had mine done before the wedding secondary to having two wedding bands (they wrapped around my e-ring). My husband bought me another "e-ring" to wear while it was being done. He got me a pearl ring with diamond chips so a very cheap alternative. That way I still had something to wear and I didn't have to worry about how we would get the three rings to work. On my wedding day I just wore the pearl ring on my right hand.

No, I'm finding it much more practical to have separate rings, now that I already have two. I honestly do not understand the point of having 2 rings if they're soldered? Why not only have one?

    And what Leanna said.

I've never heard of this until today. Like others have said, I'm going to keep two rings so I can leave off the e-ring when I'm doing something that may harm it. Right now I don't wear it when I'm swimming, working out, etc... so it will be nice to have a simple wedding band to wear during those times.

I'm definately not having mine done. My jewler suggested it... he actually even suggested taking my diamond out of my Ering (solitaire) and putting it in the center of my wedding band, I thought that was super strange.... He also brought up the fact that it could damage the small stones on the top edge of the wedding band but I just can't get over the idea of not having two rings. Thankfully we have a great relationship with out jeweler and they have a fantastic warranty so if anything happens there won't be a cost to us to fix it.

Here's a pic of the band so you can see what he was talking about putting the Ering stone in it....
