Soooo let me start out by saying that my parents are paying for most of the wedding/reception. Our reception is in the backyard of my parent’s house. We are going for more of a relaxed/fun BBQ feel. We are serving buffet style Polynesian food. I wanted to purchase drink holders (something like the picture below). Well last night my Dad tells me that he doesn’t want to spend 30.00 a piece for those (we would need to buy 4). SO he asked me if I would be fine if we just did cans of pop!? I straight up told him no way!!! (like a bridzilla). But I started thinking about it.. and I’m wondering if you ladies think that would be to ghetto? Be honest please…

I am using cans! We are serving canned beer, bottled water and wine (not in a can). Our favor along with the photo booth will be Cool Cup Holders. And I don't consider Our Wedding ghetto at all...

I personally wouldn't do it. I would buy those containers and put tea & lemonade in them.

What about bottled soda!? Glass ones... not plastic.

Ice tea and lemonade are FAR cheaper than serving soda in cans.

I wouldnt use any containers, the soda will go flat in no time. However, bring on the cans!

I'm having soda cans, i will have nice plasticware for pouring, but yeah we will have beer cans, bottles, soda, water, all in coolers for self-grab.

I personally don't think it's tacky but if you are concerned about it tell your guests you're having a "green" reception and to make sure they recycle their cans Smiley winking

$30 sounds high for those containers, have you looked at Target?

What about bottles of coke instead of cans, I think those are really cute.

I don't see anything wrong with it since you are having a casual, backyard BBQ style reception.

You can do galvanized tins filled with ice and glass bottles of soda, kinda going for a vintage feel....But the glass bottles will still amp up price.

We are doing soda but in 2 liters so we don't have a lot of half drunk cans. We have friend that is going to serve as bartender. We are using three of those containers for lemonaide and tea. I registered for two. That is the only thing that I know has been bought.

I would just do 2-liters of soda so the cans aren't floating around in pictures

Nothing at all wrong with cans, IMO, but it may be a regional thing-- some people seem quite opposed to them. I live in the SF Bay Area.

The containers are just for pretty pictures imo. If you want them, than you go buy them yourself. I'm looking at it from your dad's pov, and what is he gonna do with 4 of them that he paid $120 for after your wedding? What size are those btw? Usually the cheaper ones would be too small for a reception.

Oh no no cans. even if it is casual / at home / bbq, no. honestly that is a great price on the containers ( i have a couple)... you may be able to find some cheaper in the mean time. i do not think that is being bridezilla. just no. dad's try, but sometimes they need a little help. :o)

Ghetto?? Well damn now I'm slightly insulted... Yes we will be doing cans of soda at our outdoor reception, AND we will have the dispensers. Found the 2.75 gallon ones at Menards on clearance for 12 bucks each.

Maybe you could borrow some wheel barrows and fill them with ice for the cans? Where I live, it is totally acceptable to have a horse trough (sp?) filled with ice for cans of beer and soda and bottles of water.

Also, with a drink holder like that for outdoors you would probably need ice which would water down your drink?

Can you rent the containers? Or, buy them and then resell them? With graduations coming up, I bet you will find them on sale so they aren't so pricey.

If it was a birthday party, I'd say yes, but it's your wedding.... I definitely wouldn't do it!!
