Social anxiety/excessive sweating

Julybride716, on February 12, 2014 at 12:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

Anyone else freaking about the big day? I have social anxiety and sweat excessively (from everywhere)...wondering why the heck I chose to get married in July. Any one else have this dilemma? Any suggestions on what to do?

I know a few brides who have taken a Xanax on their wedding day to calm their nerves. Ask your doctor.

Baby Powder, dress shields, and putting antiperspirant on at night before bed should help with the sweating. Also, get some hand fans for while you're waiting to start the ceremony, during pictures outside, etc.

Just to add to what OTW said-- the women who took xanax generally had taken it in the past, and not just on their wedding day. So, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to take it for the first time on your wedding day, without knowing how you react to it. Xanax can also be very addictive, so I would only consider it as a last resort.

The Xanax idea makes me think of the wedding scene from Sixteen Candles. You know, when the bride takes muscle relaxers, and is completely looped and falling down all over the place.

Shannon--yes! It may help with the anxiety, but it could also have her falling asleep, or embarrassing herself. Plus, benzodiazepines really shouldn't be taken with alcohol, so that makes drinking out of the question.

I have a sweating problem, so I am definitely worried about that part of the wedding day. I don't have social anxiety, I just sweat for no damn reason and of course in the underarm area!!!

I'll certainly be using this certaindri lol

Oh I'm a horrible sweater. It's a problem. I'll be using Certain Dri as well! I don't use is usually because it isn't great for you, but I'm making an exception for my wedding weekend.

Also, I always bring a hairdryer with the cooling air and this sounds crazy but right before I get dressed I cool down my armpits and I plan on doing that on my wedding day. It really helps. I'll probably have to do that right before the first looks, and then again before the ceremony. I have no shame, lol.

Oh and baby powder and possibly that thigh glide stuff for running. I don't want thigh rubs at my wedding.

I don't know if you can get this where you are from... but there is a fantastic product in the UK called Driclor. There is a similar product in Canada, with a similar name but I can't remember the name at the moment. It's for excessive sweating. You put it on a night and it shrinks your sweat glands. You only use it a for a few days and then after that you only have to put it on about 1x a week. It just stops all sweat from happening where you put it. There are various strengths too. I use it often in the summer on my face because it sweats so easily (I'll sweat there before my armpits even get sweaty at all). It's brilliant and I plan on using it in the next couple months before my wedding so I won't get sweaty at all and I won't have to worry about normal stuff failing.

@CeCe - I'll be adding a cooling air blowdryer to my wedding day checklist. Any idea is worth a try! Thanks!

The dermatologist can give you Drysol, which may be like what Erin is talking about. I've heard that Botox can help with sweating. Not sure how far you're willing to go to stop it.

J&B-- botox can help with sweating in certain areas, but it will cause compensatory sweating elsewhere. So, if you always have sweaty palms, botox injections into your hands will help with that, but you'll probably start sweating more in your back to make up for it :/

Thanks for all the tips! I'm going to try to stay as calm as possible. I may have a glass of champagne before going down the isle. I know once the ceremony is over I'll be fine. Thanks again

I have anxiety and I take some meds for it, if you ask your doctor you can get prescribed some and it takes about 2 weeks to start working but it helps a lot!!

Oh and also if you have a lace dress apparently sweating won't show, thats what the store I bought my dress at told me anyways.

Like Kristina, I have anxiety and take meds for it. Not every day or even once a week, but when I feel the need. The wedding might be one. I used Certain Dri for a while, but it stopped working for me :-(

Baby Powder your whole body. If you don't, you will chafe so badly and you will be in hell lol. I use the clinical strength deodorant because I sweat like a gross dude when I am at the gym. It really works.

BOTOX. My friend does this and it really helps. Her insurance pays for most of it.

I think it depends on how sever your excessive sweating is, but certain dri never worked for me. I had to go to the doctor for mine back in high school and she prescribed hypercare which was a liquid that was applied to the area (underarms for me) once a week. It is really effective and left me completely dry. Not sure if you could use it for your whole body though...
