My fmil made our flower girl dresses for my fiance's two nieces. I wanted them to be identical and the bottom of them to be poofy. The dresses are extremely flat looking rather than poofy. They have a heart cutout in the back, but one dress looks like a heart and the other looks nothing like a heart. She also made them about 1-2 sizes too big even though she measured them because she was worried they wouldn't fit. Their mom's friend has to take them in, but it might mess up the red sash around the middle of the waist when she takes them in. My fiance refuses to consider buying other dresses because he thinks they are great. The whole thing makes me want to cry. He feels it isn't important enough to worry about but I disagree. I want dresses that don't look like they were handmade and look rather different from each other. My mom thinks they should wear them to rehearsal, but that we should get other dresses. We are spending $25,000 on a very formal wedding, but are having homemade flower girl dresses 😭 I wanted to buy nice simple white dresses from Amazon or Walmart but my fiance insisted on letting her make them because she wanted to help. She was already helping make favors so it wasn't like she wasn't included. I also invited her to go with me dress shopping but she had excuses each time. She went with us to look at venues as well.

I think I should also mention that most of the fighting about the dresses hasn't been because of what they look like. It's because my fmil was supposed to have them done months ago and she just got them down last week and our wedding is less than 1 month away and I was waiting on her to finish them before I bought accessories for the girls.

Have you considered your relationship has bigger issues than a couple of dresses?

Yes I have especially because he is currently on vacation in Alaska with less than 3 weeks to go before the wedding and he left me alone to deal with a bunch of stuff to get done and he's unreachable.

Oh honey. I can absolutely see that the dresses aren't exactly like what you imagined BUT I also don't think they are a total wash either. With some stitching in the back and a petticoat, I think they will look much better. I am sorry you are upset over them but try not to let it ruin your whole vision for your flower girls. They will be precious and your day will be amazing no matter what they are dressed in. If you feel that strongly about new dresses, buy them new dresses! Otherwise, you either need to let it go or figure out a way for the parents to take them and have them taken in.

They were supposed to be fitted this week, but their mom hasn't reached out to her friend to see if she got the alternatives done. She suggested just tying ribbon around the waist of the dresses to make them fit better if her friend doesn't complete the alternatives. Needless to say, no one thinks tying ribbon around the middle of the dresses to make them fit will look good including my fiance. He feels they should either be properly altered like we were told or they can wear something else. I am going to order back up dresses from Amazon just so we have something that will fit them if they aren't altered before the wedding.
