Saturday I attended a potluck wedding. Sigh I know I've never heard of one before ww so I was curious.I see a lot of potluck suggestions and brides adamant on having a potluck wedding, so I wanted to share from a guest point of view why this is not a good idea. Saturday I attended a potluck wedding. Sigh I know I've never heard of one before ww so I was curious.I see a lot of potluck suggestions and brides adamant on having a potluck wedding, so I wanted to share from a guest point of view why this is not a good idea. Here's a list of a FEW things went wrong.

1 only 20 ppl showed up at the ceremony the rest was still preparing food

2 there was NO PROPER STORAGE at the venue so the food was sitting out for hours!

3 by the time dinner was served (by frendors) it was cold bc there was NO PROPER STORAGE

4 the variety of food was way too diverse nothing went together. please hold the fish and lasagna

5 as more people kept coming more food, less space NO STORAGE so much waste time money and efforts to prepare a meal on the guest behalf

6 the lovely aunt frendor server got distracted and dropped a whole tray of rice on a guest!

7 this takes the cake. There was no cake the cousin chef that was baking the cake ran out of time to make it

No Honeyfund or registry. OOOO I didn't even tell ya'll about the bar, I wanted to focus on the potluck issue. Well they had beer and wine during cocktail hour then cash bar. At first most of the guest were like ok whatever until we found out that the cash bar was either only cash or if you wanted to pay with a card there was a $20 dollar minimum or you had the option to open a tab until you reached $20 or more. The drinks were fairly priced so it took a few drinks to get to $20.

I have to think that the idea of potlucks came from a sappy Hallmark wedding movie where the couple overcame all sorts of difficulties and the wonderful townsfolk came together to throw them a wedding, complete with food. Of course, that mock up of food was carefully coordinated by a set designer and no one ate the food.

@ Bea I couldn't bc my stupid curiosity I had to see it to believe it. But on the way to the reception FH and I stopped for food and the fruit platter I brought as my contribution.

I'm friends with the bride on FB and she just put up a "thank you" post to everyone who made HER day special and how perfect it was......I think she was at the wrong wedding bc it was far from perfect.

I went to a potluck wedding and it turned out fine, but I would definitely not take that chance, myself.

@Zoe please share how it turned out fine. bc I need an example! After what I witnessed Saturday I can't imagine how a potluck wedding would turn out fine unless it was a real small intimate wedding.

@FutureHouligan I know exactly what thread your talking about I commented on it came to get the link then the thread was gone LOL

I was wondering what you made.

With my friends you would of have a lot of veggie fruit and cheese trays and 12 identical pasta salads.

They once planned a friends giving and came to me and said you will make turkey right? No one knows how. Um sure let me just use 4 ovens to make 3 turkeys and 2 hams for 50 people f everyone

@Erin I stopped at a grocery store on the way to the reception and bought a fruit platter. I couldn't subject people to my cooking and they would've had to eat it cold! lol My mom and my sister brought pasta salad the exact same kind!

Can we keep bumping this forever? I thought it was really bad until you mentioned the cash bar. That sounds like the worst wedding in history. Did you bring a gift besides your fruit platter?
