Small wedding reception ideas??

Ariella, on June 6, 2020 at 2:02 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
So I’m having a small wedding of about 50 people or under. Most of these people will be on the older or middle aged side. I love to dance but, I know it wouldn’t be worth it to create that type of traditional dancing reception. I do want to make it fun still!! Any suggestions?

I thought about a traditional dinner (servers etc) but honestly it’s just not in the budget to have something nice and fancy like that.

It is absolutely time to bust out the group games!

From old-school Bingo and Simon Says (at tables) to the shoe game and trivia, you can have a "fun and games" reception, instead of dancing.

As for food, you do need to feed your guests. Is it possible to have a local restaurant cater for you?

Agreed. Actually I would do both. My friend did that for her wedding in her parents backyard. Games plus a small dance floor for those that wanted to dance and those that did not had games.

I agree that games can really help! You can also do more formal games than board games with casino tables brought in, etc.

Why not let the older folks mingle and the younger ones can dance? It's done all the time with no problem.

Have a local restaurant you love cater. They won't charge you wedding prices for good food.

For our local reception, we had about 50 guests. Most guests were 40-65 years of age and LOVED our big band and Frank Sinatra impersonator. Maybe find an impersonator or singer to sing the old school songs? We weren't sure if people would dance, but they sure did! Even if only to a few songs, that kind of music is great ambiance that the guests in your age range would likely appreciate.

I agree with adding some songs that were popular when your guests were younger. Lots of good stuff that everyone will enjoy and recognize! Big band stuff is energetic and fun. Maybe set up a playlist and mix it up so you have stuff from various decades that YOU like, first and foremost.
