Small Wedding Ceremony and Reception advice

Adrienne, on November 11, 2019 at 3:47 PM Posted in Planning 1 7
We're getting married in February on a local historic boat in the delta in Sacramento. It's very intimate and cozy for the ceremony and reception space. Our guest list is 20 people. Any advice on how to go about the seating arrangement, music coordination (phone/tablet and a Bluetooth speaker), and other small details, what traditions should I keep or leave out? Should I bother with favors? We're hosting an after party in our suite after the reception and I think that's where we will have our first dance since the reception room is very small and cozy.
Do's and don'ts for small weddings?

Delta King? That would be an awesome place for a wedding!

Does the venue provide speakers? Check with them on all those details so you aren't worrying about anything that you don't actually need to worry about.

As for the traditions, that is COMPLETELY up to you and your FS. Talk about the traditions you like and the ones you don't. Keep only the ones important to you and leave the rest. There are no "should" here, other than your preference.

Favors are not necessary, ever, but local items (something edible) can be fun and could add to the experience of your intimate wedding.

Yes, the Delta King! It's so affordable and super romantic.
Thanks for the advice, it's been easy to plan since it's a small wedding, but I don't want to miss out on anything that larger weddings have too.
I'll check with our planner/coordinator on the speakers. I have a playlist already made on Amazon music, I just need to make sure it gets played.
There's a little penny souvenir machine that makes designs for the Delta King for 51¢ too.

So cool. We stayed one night there years ago and just loved everything about it. It really *felt* like living history. Enjoy your wedding!

For favors, I would go with something edible from Old Town (but again, only if you want to; totally not required).

We're staying in the Captain's Quarters, that will be awesome. There's a salt water taffy place in old town, that would be easy.

I also live in the Sacramento area so just wanted to drop in to comment. I agree about doing edible favors. The taffy would be perfect. I'm personally not a fan of most non-edible favors, and would have no use for a souvenir penny, but I love the salt water taffy in old Sac. I had a small wedding of 40 guests in Sonoma and just treated it like any other wedding. We had a string duo and pianist for the ceremony, solo guitarist for the cocktail hour, a 5-piece dinner band, and a 9-piece band for dancing after dinner. We also had a multi-course plated dinner, photo booth, a candy bar, hot chocolate/hot cider bar, and 2 late night snacks consisting of s'mores and grilled cheese sandwiches. IMO, it is more about budget versus the size of the guest list and because we kept our guest list down we were able to really splurge on our guests.

We're have a drink runner under our tab for 2 hours, h'our dourves, and a plated meal with salad for our guests. We're planning on having a small cake with cupcakes to make it easier for guests to enjoy dessert. I'll definitely be looking at the taffy option. The Captain's Quarters has a huge private deck where we could continue the party with those who want to stay, but they'd be responsible for their own drinks and food at that point.
