Small dinner/reception ideas

CAA, on December 25, 2017 at 12:53 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
Merry Christmas everyone!

I am looking into getting married in 2019 due to the fact that I am a teacher overseas, my FI is home in Jersey and my contract ends in 2019. We have talked about having a long honeymoon after the wedding/when I come back home since we’ve been apart for the past few years.

We’ve been playing around with the idea of having a destination wedding in Aruba or doing a cruise wedding but those are starting to add up both for us and our guests. So now we are thinking about having a small ceremony/reception/dinner to keep costs down and also save enough for our honeymoon and life after the wedding. I have a really large family but we’d try to keep it around 60-75 people. Do anyone have any ideas about any restaurants/venues in the NJ/NY/PA area that could work while also keeping costs down? Thanks!

Open Table has a list of restaurants with private rooms. You can search by location, cuisine, cost etc

First, we would need your budget. "Keeping costs down" is relative and for some people that means $3000 and for others that means $25,000. Additionally, it would be helpful to zero in on an area. Three states is a huge net to cast. It is unlikely you'll be able to do a ceremony at a restaurant for that amount of people. Also, if dancing is a must, keep in mind that in NYC, there's a law that there can't be dancing in any establishment that does not have a cabaret license which many restaurants don't.

We ran into a similar issue since our wedding was 73 people and we were too big for most restaurants and too small for many other venues. We live in Long Island but were looking on Long Island and NYC. I also didn't want anything that looked like a ballroom. We went with Deity in Brooklyn. It's a 3 story loft-like venue with lots of exposed brick, wood floors, etc. It's reasonably priced (relatively for NYC) and the minimum for a Sunday wedding was 75, which was perfect for us. They also include a DOC and a DJ (who was fantastic).

I always recommend my venue because it’s been a blessing for saving money and hosting a beautiful wedding and reception. It’s Doolans Shore Club in Spring Lake NJ. For our 91 guests it comes out to $6,400 but it includes everything! 😊

You might check out the historic King George II Inn in Bristol, PA. http://www.kginn.com
