Small Bridal Shops

Camilla, on October 16, 2019 at 6:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

How did you decide which bridal shops to try? I feel like with Davids Bridal I can see online exactly what they have and be able to try on what I see. But nothing I have fallen in love with. I think I want something with a pretty back.

I Googled bridal shops near me and called/looked at reviews to make sure they had dresses for under $1000 (my max budget). There was 1 that said yes, so I went to David's and there, and I bought my dress at the local bridal shop.

For my bridesmaids dresses, I wanted get to dresses from somewhere other than David's Bridal. I also wanted to be able to see the dresses in person on my girls rathe than just ordering online. I called ahead of time and booked appointments with three small bridal shops. I was very specific on what I wanted - long, fire engine red, under $200 and could be tried on in the store. My girls and I went to all three stores and sadly they lied to us. They really didn't have anything like.i described and their idea of helping me was to hand me a book to select dresses from which is basically the same thing as ordering online so we ended going to David's Bridal and got their dresses because none of the small bridal shops had anything. I did get my wedding dress from a smaller bridal shop, but I went to like 6 different ones until I found the one I worn on my wedding day.

I found a shop at my local bridal show.
Also, when I went to Davids, they only had 2 of the 20 dresses I had favorited online.

I only have 2 maid of honors and 3 flower girls.... so bridesmaid dresses arent going to be as difficult. But I guess looking at smaller shops could be fun

I googled shops in my area and looked at reviews. Many of them have a list of the designers they carry on their website or samples of their gowns on social media, so it’s pretty easy to get a feel for what they carry.

I saw you said that your budget is less than $400 which is a rather low budget. My mom bought my wedding dress and her budget was $1,500 and we had a difficult time because a lot of the dresses were more than that. I also live in Maryland which tends to be a pricer area If you want to spend less than $400 at a bridal shop, I think you are going to have purchase a dress that is a sample or discontinued. The good thing about David's Bridal is they often have sales.

I would still go to David's Bridal and try stuff on! Then search for some well reviewed salons in your area, and call and ask if dresses in your budget are available. Looking at a dress online is way different than trying it on.

I paid $800 plus alterations. It was a sample that fit very well. With a $400 budget, even samples might be difficult. As a previous poster suggested, check out David's Bridal anyway. Dresses look so different on then in the pictures. Also, check out bridal consignment shops near you (if any). Pre-owned dresses may be another route.

I searched for bridal salons in my area that carried the designer I wanted! I ended up buying my dress online from another bride (it was brand new without alterations), but I loved the in-store experience!

I went to David’s bridal just for fun and had the free time and I feel in love with my dress and bought it that day. It was a Vera Wang that was on the clearance rack, I didn’t want a white dress and it was the only colored dress they had. I always thought less of David’s bridal but I was wrong. Plus the price was way under my budget. Here was my amazing find... I was able to add things like the jewels to it as well.
