My FH and I changed our wedding plans. We cancelled our ceremony & reception and we decided to have a very small ceremony upstate. My sister gave my FH & I $200 to use towards our initial wedding. My FH and I changed our wedding plans. We cancelled our ceremony & reception and we decided to have a very small ceremony upstate. My sister gave my FH & I $200 to use towards our initial wedding. I used this $200 to put down the deposit for my MUA. Since the first initial wedding was cancelled, she wants the $200 back. Can someone please tell me if I'm in the wrong for being upset about this? We are still getting married, and this would still be considered a gift, correct? Of course, I will be giving the money back. I was just under the impression it was a gift and I can use it for whatever we wanted to.

Thank you everyone for the responses! An update: I sent her the money back through PayPal, called her, and I tried to talk to her about it. She isn't speaking to me and she isn't coming anymore. So I guess that's that.

OP I would be cutting off that relationship for good. Whatever her problem is, it's hers to sort out. Maybe she'll come around, maybe she won't. Focus now on the people in your life that aren't manipulative and rude.

Thank you, @La Grosera. FH and I are in the agreement that we do not have any sort of reason to speak her anymore at this point. I've been trying to cut her out of my life for a while now. I'm hoping this is the one.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I hope in a month she doesn't try to say she is coming again and cause more drama. And good for you for being the bigger person Smiley smile

She's being a little B about it. Those aren't manners. To ask for a gift back. It's petty. I wouldn't give her anything. U used the money for ur wedding ceremony...

Well your sister is completely in the wrong here and doesn't sound like someone you should have at your wedding IMO. She sounds like she would bring a lot of negative energy and you most definitely shouldn't have that at your wedding. Good luck hun!

Just read your update and damn @OP, I'm sorry it came to that! You're a much better person I am. I would be petty AF about it, haha. But as PPs have said, seems as though you're better off without that kind of negativity in your life! (Edited because words are hard at 2am lol)

I'm going to piggy back the I'm sorry this is happening. She sounds awful.

I'm team petty and if she decides she wants to go. "Sorry we already gave our final numbers in and you told us you weren't coming."
