Sister and Best Friends are Getting Married at Same Venue

Danny, on August 17, 2019 at 2:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 20
I want to know how others would feel about this. My sister booked a venue at the beach after doing some research and she really loved the place. My best friends have been researching for a while and in terms of budget finds out that my sister is having a wedding at one of the places they’re going to check out and ends up booking the same place, but two months prior to my sisters wedding. My sister finds out and she is kind of upset about it because she feels like she put in the effort to make this her special place and now they’re booking ahead of hers. She thinks it’s taking away from it being her special place to get married and they should at least told her about it before booking. She claims she got proposed to first and even brings up that she chose the venue first.

I personally didn’t think it was a big deal, but she thinks I’m taking my friends sides over hers. I can’t reason with her and told her it’s going to be two totally different weddings, with two totally different families. I need some advice on how to approach this and if someone really should feel this way if something like this happens.

Without any other context, I think she's being a little rediculous, but I also know she's entitled to her opinion. Is she close with your friends as well? Will she be invited to the wedding too? I think I may need more details.

Your sister is being ridic. You don't get exclusive rights to a venue. If she gets to attend the friend's wedding, that will give her a chance to get insider tips and inspiration.

I would be upset if my friends booked the venue I have and got married there before me. And some would assume the later date bride stole the idea from the other bride.

It's ridiculous. Where I'm from there are a whole three places to have a reception of more than 30 people within a two and a half hour drive. All the weddings, funerals, graduations, Christmas parties etc have been there. It absolutely does not matter that the venue is the same. All the weddings are different.

She does realize that many people before her and many people after her will be married there, right? I mean, is she expecting them to shutter the place after she’s done with it, as the be-all, end-all event of a lifetime? That’s how silly that is.
If I found a fabulous venue, or fabulous anything, I’d want to share the idea with all of my friends. I didn’t invent weddings, or the millions of duplicated things about them. She is being selfish and childish.

How many guests will be attending both weddings? You will, obviously, but are there many others? Your sister needs to grow up, to be honest. A venue is a venue, it's not her exclusive property.

I get it, kind of frustrating right?? I always like to be the out of the box and non cookie cutter type. The others are right, she doesnt own exclusive rights to this venue. Silver lining- if she is attending the friends wedding she will get a chance to get some great ideas of what to do/not do.

I get why she would feel that way. However, it's a venue and it's not her friend. Your friend doesn't owe her anything. There's nothing to be done now. If I were you, I would validate your sister's feelings. Tell her you understand why she would feel let down and worried that her day will be less special. Assure her that her day will be amazing.

Two of my friends had their reception at the same place, I actually told her so it would be cheaper. I don't see the big idea, I understand her frustration but it should actually HELP her because she can see how the vendors work and where she would like everything. Life is too short for all that nonsense, she should take it as a compliment.

I'd probably understand more if it was her own bestfriend, but it's not and like you and others have stated, it's two completely different weddings and families. It shouldn't matter who gets married there before or after your sister. It sounds like to me your friend was already considering that place before she knew your sister booked. I doubt she was going in with malicious intent.

I would honestly be excited for this if I was the later bride, as I would be able to see if anything went wrong for the first bride and if I needed to change anything for mine. Your sister doesn’t own the venue and having another wedding there doesn’t detract from hers.

I think it matters how overlapping the guest list is. It’s your friend, not hers. It’s hard when you’re planning- your life almost is consumed by wedding planning and you get very emotional. And no one has your wedding on their mind like you do. A girl at work’s daughter just got married at my venue. I’ve loved asking her questions about how things went and what she’d change. Maybe your sister can look st it that way.

It’s two different families, it’s not like guests are going to be going to the same wedding. She sounds like she’s just stressed and looking for a target to focus her stress on. Besides, it’s a beach venue, there’s only so many ways you can dress it up. Her venue will still be unique because it’s her wedding.

It’s your sister and your friend? I believe you’ll be the only guest at both wedding, right? It doesn’t matter.

Oh wow. I'm so sorry that you are going through this. It's a venue and anyone is entitled to book there as they are pleased. I would just tell your sister take it as a compliment that your friend is at the same venue because that means she has immaculant taste! I wouldn't feed into it anymore and just let it go. It will be 2 different wedding different dates with different friends and families Smiley smile

Who is going to both weddings? I don’t see that there’s going to be any overlap in the guest list (other than you) so there will be no one to think sister stole friend’s venue idea. If that’s not an issue, what’s the problem? It’s not even your sister’s friend! Sounds like much ado about nothing.

Your sister is overreacting. Tons of people get married at the same venue, but it doesn't make each wedding less special

If it was one of her best friends, I could see why she would be upset, but since it's your best friend, I don't think it's a huge deal.
