Silly question.. planning timeline?

Nasia, on June 1, 2023 at 4:12 PM Posted in Planning 1 2

My fiancé and I are planning a relatively long engagement. We won't get married until 2025. I want to use the entire engagement to plan, so I can actually enjoy our engagement without stress. I have already found a venue and taken engagement pictures, but do y'all have any advice on what I could do next? I am working on save the dates since we have a venue and date, however is there some sort of timeline or checklist y'all use to plan? I feel so overwhelmed just thinking about it all, and I have no idea what to do next. The majority of the details I want to start sorting out should not be decided upon until we are at least a year closer to the big day. I would love your insight. Let me know!

Nail down all your vendors first. Honestly though, I would hire anyone 2 years out cuz a lot of things can change, companies go out of business, etc. save the dates shouldn’t be sent out until 6-8 months out if it’s a local wedding or up to a year if it’s a destination wedding. There are free timelines on here and on The Knot that can give you an estimate of what to do when. Unless you’re heavily DIYing things, there isn’t really a whole ton, especially not enough to take 2 years of planning. We had about a 16 month engagement and there were several months I didn’t do any wedding planning.

I had a similar timeline. After my venue, I booked a caterer. Then photographer, HMUA, music, officiant, and transportation. I booked my caterer 3 years in advance, and he was already booked for several dates in the same year. I had HMUAs turn me down 2 years in advance. I definitely suggest booking vendors now, starting with the caterer and going down the list based on your priorities. Having a long engagement is kind of weird because you have so much time, then all of a sudden you're less than a year out! If you're worried about vendors going out of business after signing a contract, you can work something out with them in the contract.
