I was looking into it. However my wedding planner said she'd never seen a nice silk flower that didn't cost as much as a real flower. If your main reason is price, then I'd still do a lot of comparison. If your main reason is that they'll last forever, then go for it :-)

I use to plan and decorate weddings so I am doing all my own flowers. I am not a lover of slik flowers and think you either have to go expensive to have them look good. For my wedding I am going to the grocery store and getting bundles that have allready been put together. They have a nice variety of flowers mixed with complimentary colors and are all arranged. The plan is to take the bundle rubberband it then cut the stems to fit the vase, bouquet etc. You can get a large bunch for around 20$ med for 10$ and small for 5 for the bouquests we will do the same thing and just wrap the stems with ribbon. This is going to save me a bundle and tons of time. Good Luck

I absolutely agree that most high quality artificial stems cost as much as the real thing. However most people just go to Hobby Lobby and get their silks instead. They aren't the best silks, but they work!

I will be the first person to promote permanent botanicals to a bride if she wants a longer lasting bouquet -- but not if she wants to save on price. I guess it's just in my blood to expect artificial stems to mimic real stems. ^^

In the end, it only matters what you like and what will make you happy. =)

Alot of us are using them. There are some very good silk florals out there, and can be bought online in bulk. Go for it.

If price is the sole consideration, take a look at locally grown flowers that are in season. If you want something that will last along time, then silk is the way to go. For the centerpieces have you considered succulents or other potted plants? They are lovely as decorations and make nice thank you gifts to the people who have helped you with the wedding planning.

I make bouquets, boutonniers and corsages with succulents mixed in that can be planted in a container once the festivities are over. Its always an added bonus

Good luck and have fun planning.

Thanks for all the tips guys ! Price is definetly important but looking nice (seeing as the venue is really fancy) is equally important. I will have to do some searching and price comparisons but I still have plenty of time...even though it doesnt feel that way !!!

I am doing pinwheels in vintage papers for bouquets and such - I won't have to worry about them going limp before the ceremony, and they'll definitely be a conversation piece.

It really depends too on the type of flowers. They make some pretty amazing fake flowers.... and you can actually end up paying more for fake than some real ones. Do some comparison shopping.

I've worked with flowers in the past and it's important to me that the flower that I want looks like the "real" thing, if I'm using silk.

Also depends on how 'formal' you want it to look at well. Some brides like the wildflower look and that could save you a bit of money finding the real thing.

If you must DIY use the BEST silks you can.

I always tell Brides they should visit a GOOD floral designer, as you may be very surprised at what they can provide on a realistic budget. I see it every week, Brides afarid they cant afford a pro designer. ASK us what you can get thats creative in your price point.

Add all the materials and time for the silks and see what you come up with, then call around to some of the WW pros for fresh and silks.

Yes Fresh flowers always say Fancy or WOW, and even a handful of Geberas arranged in a vase can be awe inspiring and romantic. Not Bank Busting, LOL

After all are you REALY going to want those dusty silks after 5 years.

I say go for the best fresh Bouquet for the bride and have the MEMORIES of the beautiful flowers a lifetime. After all you are WORTH the luxury! :-)

I'm doing all kindas of Different Flowers for the Wedding. The Flower Girl is Carying a Silk Kissing Ball that I made. My bridesmaids are all getting Real Flowers and I'm carrying Clay Flowers. It all came down to cost. Kissing Ball I did for $3.00 all dollar store Silk Flowers it was my neice so I think it not a big deal for her since she is 2. The BM I wanted to do silk flowers but the Nice ones I seen would of cost $40.00 just for the 6 Roses I wanted. So I got real flowers for $25.00. My Flowers I wanted something very Unique that I could keep so I went with the Clay. The Bouquet and Bout. were $200.00 together and it looks amazing.
