Show me your DIY Centerpieces!

Corinne_, on August 11, 2015 at 4:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

I know that I still have time, but I'm thinking about centerpieces right now. I don't want anything fancy, so I'm not sure right now if I can manage to DIY or if I would be better off hiring somebody.

I'm thinking about little vases with babys breath and a few succulents in mini pots. Or even succulents as escort cards.

Here are some blogs with our venue:

I feel like the decoration is always kept to a minimum there since the surroundings are just so pretty already.

Did you do your centerpieces yourself? Do you regret it? Would you rather have hired somebody in hindsight?

The inspiration pictures are not the best btw, I know I saw something better, but I really can't find it right now.

    I'm doing a very similar centerpiece @Jenn B!

Just have a few jars mixed in with the bottles using orange carnations. I don't have a full mock up.

I think I have a picture of the very first time I tried it, just to make sure it didn't look crappy in real life. lol I plan to do a full mock up soon

    ETA: pics

I'm glad I DIY'd mine. Very minimalistic. It's kind of hard to see in this pic, but there's a deer antler on my centerpiece.

I'm doing something like this. I am going to package them up and our florist is going to put them out for me and light the candles.

We're doing a Star Wars theme reception so FH made this centerpiece for our sweetheart table! The other tables will have floral center pieces but be named after Star Wars planets instead of using table numbers.

Mine will be similar to this - with dried purple and green hydrangeas instead of that fake flowers.

I helped make the centerpieces for my shower. My mom was having a hard time with them. we bought flowers from our grocery store and put them in vases I got from Joann's. I glued rhinestones to them.

I am still collecting all the needed pieces for mine. But I am going to have trees with flowers and crystals on half of the tables and a low 6" block filled with roses and wax flower for the other half of our 25 tables. I am about to start working on making a sample piece

Keep in mind if you DIY your centerpieces, you will need to a) get them to the venue and b) someone at the venue to put them out for you!

This is not very clear since I have them all on one table... But basically I have gold plates and mirrors for bases and then various glass jars/bottles. Some fall leaves hot glue gunned as well. Nothing too crazy.

We are doing as much DIY as possible which includes our centerpieces and my FH has been very helpful with every project. We have already made all of the baskets and purchased all of the vases for inside of them. They are made out of paint stirrers, very cheap, thank you Pinterest. It will be similar to the top picture. I will be doing the flowers myself and it will be sunflowers and baby's breath.

    You are all so talented!

@annakay: Yeah, this is one of my worries. We are meeting a potential caterer soon and that was one of the things I wanted to ask them about.

Does this count as DIY? My dad made the centerpieces being used by our florist

Here are the tall ones and then he is going to make smaller ones

I did my own, and I do *not* regret it at all. I got exactly what i wanted, and I was able to play around with different elements until I got it the way I wanted it.

Then, I took photos of it set up so the girls setting up the tables would know how to do it, and then I bought a cardboard photo box/shoe box, 1 for each table, and I put the book, bird, moss (in a plastic bag), menu and table number into each one, so all they had to day-of was grab a box, grab a flower and a jar, and set it up to look like the photo.

I prepped the boxes months ahead of time, and put them in our storage unit. It was the first thing I crossed off my list. If you have time, there is literally no reason not to do this yourself.

Ours was a book (antique/used) because we like to read, with a small porcelain bird propped up on it ($2.50 on sale @Michael's), with a wooden frame for the table number, and a wooden frame for the menu ($1 ea./Michael's), a 32oz mason jar ($3) with 1 large hydrangea blossom ($6) wholesale, shipped to the hotel, and a handful of reindeer moss sprinkled around to pull it together. Burlap runners ($2.70 ea. on sale, tableclothsfactory.com) tied together the look.

I spray-painted the cardboard insert that came in the frame with chalkboard paint ($8/can), used a chalk marker ($5) to write the table number and menu out, and I used a chalk paint/wash on the frames to antique them ($8/jar).
